Method for decolorizing and deproteinizing brown algae polysaccharides
A method for decolorizing and deproteinizing brown algae polysaccharides belongs to the field of deep processing of brown algae. The method combines ultraviolet (UV) with hydrogen peroxide (H.sub.2O.sub.2), including the following steps: extracting dried and pulverized brown algae by hot water to obtain brown algae polysaccharide, dissolving the brown algae polysaccharide in an aqueous solution containing H.sub.2O.sub.2 and irradiating under ultraviolet light, wherein the mass concentration of the brown algae polysaccharide is 2.5-10.0 mg/mL, the concentration of the H.sub.2O.sub.2 is 25-150 mmol/L, and the UV irradiation time is 1.0-2.0 h, so as to deproteinize and decolorize the brown algae. The invention does not use acids, bases and organic solvents, which is green with no pollution, simple in operation, safe, economical and time-saving.
Immunogenic compositions
Technologies for the prevention and/or treatment of nosocomial infections.
PROCESS FOR THE PURIFICATION OF HYALURONIC ACID SALT, CONDUCTED IN ORGANIC SOLVENT
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of pharmaceutical, injectable or ophthalmic grade hyaluronic acid, or a salt thereof, for use in the dermocosmetic or pharmaceutical field or in medical devices, which comprises dissolution of hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof in organic solvent, a heat cycle, and recovery of the product by precipitation and successive washes in organic solvents.
METHODS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CHITIN QUANTIFICATION
The present invention features a method for solubilizing chitin in an aqueous solution by dissolving a sample containing chitin in a basic solution and autoclaving the sample. The present invention also features a method for quantifying the amount of chitin in a sample. Chitin binding proteins are used to quantify the amount of chitin using a modified ELISA assay. Results of the assay may be compared to a control containing known amounts of chitin to quantify the chitin in the sample.
Activated Pectin-Containing Biomass Compositions, Products, and Methods of Producing
Methods for producing an activated pectin-containing biomass composition are provided. These methods include A) mixing a starting pectin-containing biomass material comprising an insoluble fiber component and an insoluble protopectin component with an aqueous solution of an alcohol to form a mixture; B) activating the starting pectin-containing biomass material to form an activated pectin-containing biomass material comprising the insoluble fiber component and a soluble pectin component by subjecting the starting pectin-containing biomass material to (i) an activating solution formed by adding hydrochloric acid and/or sulfuric acid to the mixture to adjust the pH of the mixture within the range from at or about 0.5 to at or about 2.5 and (ii) heat to a temperature greater than at or about 40 degrees Celsius; C) applying mechanical energy either (i) to the mixture of step A), (ii) during the activating of step B), or (iii) to the mixture of step A) and during the activating of step B); and (D) separating the activated pectin-containing biomass material from the mixture. Alcohol is generally present in the mixture at an amount of greater than about 35 weight percent based on the total weight of the mixture. Activated pectin-containing biomass compositions are also provided.
PURIFICATION OF SACCHARIDES
The present invention relates to methods for purifying bacterial polysaccharides, in particular for removing impurities from cellular lysates of bacteria producing polysaccharides, comprising: a) acid hydrolysis; b) a first ultrafiltration/diafiltration-(UFDF-1); b) carbon filtration; c) chromatography; and d) a second ultrafiltration/diafiltration-(UFDF-2).
METHOD FOR EXTRACTING XYLAN COMPOUNDS FROM COMMINUTED WOOD COMPONENTS
The invention relates to a process for extracting xylan compounds from comminuted wood components using hydrothermal extraction, wherein the hydrothermal extraction is carried out in a fixed-bed reactor with rapid circulation.
POLLEN POLYSACCHARIDE EXTRACT AND APPLICATION THEREOF IN PLANT GROWTH
A pollen polysaccharide extract prepared by the following method: mixing rape pollen with water, then heating and stirring for extraction, filtering, mixing filtrates, adding chitosan to a resulting filtrate to obtain a liquid to be clarified, keeping the liquid to be clarified at 60-80° C. for at least 1 h, cooling and allowing to stand, and performing solid-liquid separation to obtain a liquid, namely the pollen polysaccharide extract.
Highly purified fucans for the treatment of fibrous adhesions
Compositions, methods, systems, etc., are provided for modified and/or purified fucans and corresponding fucan-containing compositions that inhibit fibrous adhesions among other advantages. The purified/modified fucans and fucan compositions have a reduced level of non-fucan components or impurities such as those found in a starting fucan composition. Such reduced undesirable components or impurities include, for example, undesired components bound to the fucan and compounds in the composition that are not a part of or bound to the fucan.
