Curable film-forming sol-gel compositions and anti-glare coated articles formed from them

Curable film-forming sol-gel compositions that are essentially free of inorganic oxide particles are provided. The compositions contain: a tetraalkoxysilane; a solvent component; and non-oxide particles, and further contain either i) a mineral acid or ii) an epoxy functional trialkoxysilane and a metal-containing catalyst. Coated articles demonstrating antiglare properties are also provided, comprising: (a) a substrate having at least one surface; and (b) a cured film-forming composition applied thereon, formed from a curable sol-gel composition comprising a silane and non-oxide particles. A method of forming an antiglare coating on a substrate is also provided. The method comprises: (a) applying a curable film-forming sol-gel composition on at least one surface of the substrate to form a coated substrate; and (b) subjecting the coated substrate to thermal conditions for a time sufficient to effect cure of the sol-gel composition and form a coated substrate with a sol-gel network layer having anti-glare properties.

This laminate has excellent oxygen and water vapor barrier properties even after a high-temperature hydrothermal treatment.

The present invention relates to a two-step synthesis method of a pre-hydrolyzed alkyl polysilicate. In the method, a silica precursor hydrated to 90 to 100% is added to maximize a condensation reaction rate, and a silica precursor hydrated to 25 to 70% is additionally added to terminate a condensation reaction, so that a condensation reaction time may be remarkably shortened relative to a conventional one-step synthesis method and may be shortened even without the use of a condensation catalyst, so that the catalyst purchase cost and the catalyst separation step in the process may not be required, thus having a simple process and reducing the production cost. Also, the amount and time point of the silica precursor additionally added may be controlled, thereby easily controlling the gelation reaction time and the weight average molecular weight, and synthesizing the pre-hydrolyzed alkyl polysilicate excellent in storage stability and processabilty.

The pattern-forming method includes: applying a silicon-containing film-forming composition directly or indirectly on at least an upper face side of a substrate to form a silicon-containing film; applying a resist film-forming composition directly or indirectly on an upper face side of the silicon-containing film to form a resist film; exposing the resist film to an extreme ultraviolet ray or an electron beam; and developing the resist film exposed to form a resist pattern. The silicon-containing film-forming composition contains a compound having a first structural unit represented by formula (1), and a solvent. In the formula (1), R.sup.1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted divalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and X and Y each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, a halogen atom or a monovalent organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
