A method of forming a polymeric composition includes the steps of melt blending an ethylene-silane copolymer and a halogen free flame retardant masterbatch comprising halogen free flame retardant dispersed in an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer to form the polymeric composition, wherein the ethylene-silane copolymer is a random copolymer of units derived from ethylene and vinyltrimethoxysilane and further wherein the copolymer has a vinyltrimethoxysilane content of 0.5 wt % to less than 2 wt % based on the total weight of the ethylene-silane copolymer; and processing the polymeric composition into a plurality of particles.

In some embodiments, the hydrogel formulations comprise diluent(s) to improve the dehydration characteristics and mechanical properties of a hydrogel polymer formulation compared to those without diluent(s). Described herein are facile, one-step initiated plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (iPECVD) methods of synthesizing hyper-thin (e.g., sub-100 nm) and flexible metal organic covalent network (MOCN) layers. As an example, the MOCN may be made from zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) building units. When deposited on a membrane support, the MOCN layers demonstrate gas separation exceeding the upper bounds for multiple gas pairs while reducing the flux as compared to the support alone.

A block copolymer is synthesized by polymerizing a silane-functionalized norbornene monomer in the presence of a catalyst system that includes a Ziegler-Natta catalyst and cocatalyst, followed by sequential addition and polymerization of a matrix-reactive functionalized norbornene monomer. The invention relates to a process for processing an adhesive, wherein the process comprises applying an adhesive precursor product onto an adhesive carrier and activating and crosslinking the adhesive precursor product by treating the adhesive precursor product with water vapor and heat in a reaction chamber, and wherein the process is characterized in that air mixed with reaction gases forming during the activation and crosslinking in the reaction chamber is conducted away from the reaction chamber and recirculated as circulating air into the reaction chamber, wherein a portion of used air of the air recirculated as circulating air is replaced by fresh air. The invention further relates to a corresponding device for processing a pressure sensitive hot-melt adhesive.

Water-processable silicone-containing prepolymers and uses thereof

The invention provide a class of water-processable polymerizable prepolymers which comprises (1) siloxane-containing monomeric units derived at least one siloxane containing monomer having one hydrophilic group or chain and/or polysiloxane-containing crosslinking units derived from at least one hydrophilized polysiloxane or chain-extended polysiloxane crosslinker; (2) hydrophilic monomeric units derived from one or more hydrophilic vinylic monomers; and (3) from about 0.05% to about 5% by weight of polymerizable units each having a pendant or terminal, ethylenically-unsaturated group and free of any polysiloxane segment. The prepolymer comprises from about 20% to about 50% by weight of silicone relative to the total weight of the prepolymer and has a high water solubility or dispersibility of at least about 5% by weight in water and suitable for making silicone hydrogel contact lenses.

According to the silicone hydrogel obtained from the composition containing silicone, and the contact lens comprising the silicone hydrogel of the present application, the expansion rate generated during the hydration process is low while having an intended water content, and thus, dimensional stability can be excellent and oxygen permeability may be excellent.
