Provided is a resin composition containing a melt-moldable polyvinyl alcohol-based resin which is improved in gas barrier property, and a melt-molded article of the resin composition. The resin composition comprises a polyhydric alcohol having 5 to 15 carbon atoms in addition to a melt-moldable polyvinyl alcohol-based resin which has a primary hydroxyl group in the side chain. The polyhydric alcohol is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of dipentaerythritol and pentaerythritol.

A thermal ink jet ink composition includes one or more volatile organic solvents, wherein the one or more volatile organic solvents are selected from C.sub.1-C.sub.4 alcohols, C.sub.3-C.sub.6 ketones, C.sub.3-C.sub.6 esters, C.sub.4-C.sub.8 ethers, and mixtures thereof; one or more binder resins; and one or more dyes. The ink composition is suitable for use in a thermal ink jet printer and the ink composition has a slow rate of kogation such that it is capable of being printed at least 10 million drops per nozzle from the thermal ink jet printer before drop weight of the ink composition is reduced by more than 10%.

A prepolymer comprising an acid group is made by a process comprising the step of contacting: (i) a di-isocyanate, (ii) a polyol containing an acid group, and (iii) a polyol without an acid group, the contacting conducted under reaction conditions and in a solvent consisting essentially of: (A) a first component consisting essentially of at least one glycol ether ketone, and (B) optionally, a second component consisting of at least one aprotic glycol ether. The prepolymer is useful in the preparation of water-based polyurethane dispersions.
