The present disclosure relates to novel polyester-ether compositions and their use in polyester resins. Containers made from these novel polyester-ether compositions give improved oxygen barrier protection for the filled fluids while maintaining good visual properties of the containers.
Gas barrier coatings
The use of a colloidal silica having a specific surface area greater than 300 m.sup.2/g in a gas barrier coating additionally comprising polyvinyl alcohol and/or ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer and/or a silylated derivative thereof improves wet bond strength.
Article comprising light absorbent composition to mask visual haze and related method
A transparent article includes a continuous polyester matrix having at least one incompatible filler dispersed therein. The incompatible filler provides domains in the polyester matrix, each domain having a particular dimension, thus providing a range of dimensions for the domains in the article. To create haze, the dimensions are within the range of from about 380 nm to about 720 nm. Once the range of dimensions is determined, a light absorbent composition can be found which absorbs light at a range of wavelengths that at least substantially covers the range of dimensions of the domains. In doing so, it has been found that the haze of the article can be substantially masked. Method for producing the article and for masking the haze are also provided.
Functionalized graphene barrier element
Described herein are functionalized graphene compositions that have gas, fluid, and/or vapor resistant properties. Also described are barrier elements based on the aforementioned compositions. Also described is a barrier device that incorporates the barrier element and further comprises a substrate and a protective coating, encompassing the barrier element.
GAS BARRIER COATING COMPOSITIONS
The present invention is directed to gas barrier coating compositions comprising a nanocomposite formed from a polymer and a nanoparticulate clay. The gas barrier coatings are applied to packaging materials such as food and pharmaceutical packaging and exhibit improved adhesion and barriers to gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapour.

The compounds of the invention are used with polymer resins to enhance their gas barrier properties.

A film for use in a packaging structure, comprising a coating on the film surface which comprises a binder and a particulate protuberant component able to remove a volatile organic compound from an environment in contact with the film in the packaging structure. Also provided is a packaging structure comprising such a film and a package which comprises the packaging structure.
Organic-inorganic composite, structural body, and method for producing organic-inorganic composite
The organic-inorganic composite of the present invention includes an organic compound having a carbonyl group, an inorganic compound containing a metal component, and a silver component. The ratio of the number of metal atoms in the inorganic compound to the number of carbon atoms in the organic compound is from 0.04 to 1.60, and the ratio of the number of silver atoms in the silver component to the number of carbon atoms in the organic compound is from 0.07 to 0.55. The organic-inorganic composite may include, for example, an inorganic compound having a metal matrix structure containing a metal M and oxygen, an organic compound having a carbonyl group, and silver ions. The carbonyl group is bonded to a side chain R.sup.1 of the organic compound and has an end group R.sup.2.
Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition, film, and multilayer structure
An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition containing an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and a metal compound, and having a peak at 2=2 to 15 when measured by wide-angle X-ray diffraction using CuK ray, as an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin composition having an excellent gas barrier property in a high humidity environment, particularly an excellent oxygen barrier property in a high humidity environment.

The present invention provides a barrier laminate including at least one inorganic barrier layer and at least one organic layer, wherein the organic layer is a layer formed of a polymerizable composition comprising a polymerizable compound represented by general formula (1) below; and a gas barrier film including the barrier laminate and a support that preferably contains a resin consisting of a polymer or a copolymer comprising a cyclic olefin within a repeating unit or a polycarbonate resin: ##STR00001##
