BARRIER COMPOSITION AND PRODUCTION PROCESS THEREOF
A process for producing a barrier composition includes subjecting a siloxane compound having 1 to 3 amino groups and an aqueous solution including water and an alcohol to hydrolysis and first-stage condensation under required conditions, subjecting a first colloidal mixture obtained and an additional alcohol to second-stage condensation, subjecting a second colloidal mixture obtained, which has a particular solid content, to heating under required conditions, and subjecting a cured product obtained to aging under required conditions. A barrier composition produced by the process is also disclosed.
WOOD STAINS AND PENETRATION PRIMERS COMPRISING LOW VOC LEVEL AQUEOUS DISPERSIONS
Disclosed are stable penetration primer or wood stain formulations. The formulation may comprise a) an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising a polymer produced by free-radically initiated emulsion polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated strong acid monomer with a pKa less than 4 (in water at 20° C.) and at least one ethylenically unsaturated weak acid monomer with a pKa of 4 or greater (in water at 20° C.); and b) at least one water-soluble alkali metal silicate, at least one water-soluble alkali metal or alkaline earth metal alkyl siliconate, or a mixture thereof.
Acrylic polymers and compositions containing such polymers
Coated articles, methods and coating compositions containing (a) a crosslinkable carboxyl-functional acrylic polymer made by polymerizing monomers including acidic monomer, multi-ethylenically unsaturated monomer and optional styrene or substituted styrene, and (b) a nitrogen-containing carboxyl-reactive crosslinking agent such as a beta-hydroxyalkylamide or beta-hydroxyalkylurea compound. The coating composition is useful in coating metal substrates including interior or exterior surfaces of food or beverage cans. The cured coating compositions can exhibit both good flexibility and high Tg.
CURABLE FILM-FORMING COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING CATALYST ASSOCIATED WITH A CARRIER AND METHODS FOR COATING A SUBSTRATE
Methods of coating a substrate are disclosed. The methods comprise applying shear force to a coating composition either before or during application of the coating composition to the substrate. The coating composition comprises a water-borne or solvent-borne film-forming resin and a catalyst associated with a carrier, wherein at least some of the catalyst can be released from the carrier upon application of the shear force. Also provided are coated articles prepared by the methods.
AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITIONS
Provided is an aqueous coating composition comprising a binder and a coalescent which is based on a secondary alcohol alkoxylate or a tertiary alcohol alkoxylate.
Environmentally friendly aqueous coating composition
An aqueous emulsion is made by emulsion polymerizing at least one free-radically polymerizable monomer and one or more di- or higher-functional chain-extending monomers in the presence of an aqueous solution of an oligomer made from a mixture of free-radically polymerizable monomers including acid-functional free-radically polymerizable comonomers, adhesion-promoting free-radically polymerizable comonomers and other free-radically polymerizable comonomers. The aqueous emulsion is substantially free of adipic dihydrazide, has a minimum film forming temperature≤55° C., and on drying has a Koenig hardness of at least 40 sec.
Coatings containing polymer modified enzyme for stable self-cleaning of organic stains
Bioactive coatings that are stabilized against inactivation by weathering are provided including a base associated with a chemically modified enzyme, and, optionally a first polyoxyethylene present in the base and independent of the enzyme. The coatings are optionally overlayered onto a substrate to form an active coating facilitating the removal of organic stains or organic material from food, insects, or the environment.
Sag resistant, formaldehyde-free coated fibrous substrate
The present invention relates to an improved formaldehyde-free coated fibrous substrate. The coating includes a crosslinked binder system which forms three dimensional networks when heat cured. After the coating is applied to the back of fibrous substrate and cured, the coating is capable of hygroscopic expansion which imparts excellent anti-sag properties. The coating is compatible with other coating systems with neutral or mild alkaline pH. The improvement being the binding system is neutralized with a volatile base so that it evaporates quickly so as not to hinder the cross-linking reaction.
Wetting and anti-foaming agent
A wetting agent according to Formula (I): ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from a branched alkyl group or linear alkyl group or a cycloaliphatic group or an aromatic group, each having 6 to 15 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; R.sup.3 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; R.sup.4 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; R.sup.5 is selected from methyl or ethyl; x ranges from 0 to 5; y ranges from 0 to 10; z ranges from 1 to 10; with the proviso that when x ranges from 1 to 5, R.sup.2 is different from R.sup.3; and with the proviso that when x=0, R.sup.3 is different from R.sup.4. The wetting agent also imparts anti-foam properties to aqueous solutions while reducing surface tension.
Low odor water-based coating composition
A low odor aqueous coating composition is described. The composition is a waterbased latex coating composition that includes a binder component with at least one copolymer and a neutralizing component. The composition dries in less than about 10 minutes at a temperature between about 5 to 35° C. and a relative humidity between about 30 and 95% with a pH of 9.5 or less. The coating composition can be used for applications such as road marking and coating exterior surfaces, where use of a low-odor coating is desired.
