The present invention concerns a cooling device and method of forming and regenerating same for use in keeping perishable products cool. The cooling device includes a porous substrate that has been soaked in a first composition including at least one anti-freeze agent before being soaked in a second composition including at least one crosslinking agent and be exposed to UV irradiation. The cooling device further includes a substrate cover for sealingly covering the porous substrate after being soaked in the second composition and exposed to the UV irradiation. Prior to use, the cooling device is cooled to a desired temperature and exposed to further UV irradiation.

The present invention relates to glycol based heat-transfer fluids exhibiting corrosion inhibition and comprising more than 5 wt. % (by total weight of the composition) of a glycol selected from the group consisting of monoethylene glycol, monopropylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, glycerol or combinations thereof; and more than 1 wt. % (by total weight of the composition) of a short-chain organic carboxylic acid or salt thereof selected from the group consisting of C.sub.2 organic carboxylic acids or salts thereof, C.sub.3 organic carboxylic acids or salts thereof and combinations thereof; wherein the combined amount of the glycol and the short-chain organic carboxylic acid or salt thereof is more than 15 wt. % (by total weight of the composition). The invention further relates to concentrates for the preparation of said heat-transfer fluids, to methods for the preparation of said heat-transfer fluids, and to the methods and uses employing said heat-transfer fluids.

Wet sprinklers, sprinkler systems, methods of providing for the control, suppression and/or extinguishment of a fire that occur in a cold environment, and methods of preventing wet sprinklers from freezing also are provided. The sprinklers, sprinkler systems and methods can be used in residential, commercial and storage settings.
