METHODS FOR MITIGATING 1,4-DIOXANE AND 1,4-DIOXANE PRECURSORS IN SURFACTANT SOLUTIONS
A method of mitigating the formation of 1,4-dioxane and precursors of 1,4-dioxane in alkyl ether sulfate surfactants is disclosed. The method involves adding one or more alcohol, hydrotrope or anti-oxidant additives to an aqueous solution of alkyl ether sulfate surfactant having at least two ethylene oxide groups. The alcohol, hydrotrope, or anti-oxidant is added to the alkyl ether sulfate solution in an amount effective to reduce the formation of diethylene glycol monosulfate, a precursor of 1,4-dioxane, and also reduce the formation of 1,4-dioxane.

ALCOHOL COMPOSITION AND DERIVATIVES THEREOF
The invention provides a composition comprising a mixture of pentadecanols wherein at least about 60 wt % of the mixture is linear pentadecanol and at least about 10 wt % of the mixture is branched pentadecanols wherein the branched pentadecanols have branching on the second carbon atom. The mixture of pentadecanols may be converted to one or more derivatives, and these derivatives may be used in laundry detergents, cleaning products or as an agricultural adjuvant, an emulsifying agent, a lubricant additive, a pour point depressant, or a personal care ingredient.
ALCOHOL COMPOSITION AND DERIVATIVES THEREOF
The invention provides a composition comprising a mixture of tridecanols wherein at least about 60 wt % of the mixture is linear tridecanol and at least about 10 wt % of the mixture is branched tridecanols wherein the branched tridecanols have branching on the second carbon atom. The mixture of tridecanols may be converted to one or more derivatives, and these derivatives may be used in laundry detergents, cleaning products or as an agricultural adjuvant, an emulsifying agent, a lubricant additive, a pour point depressant, or a personal care ingredient.
Sulfonates from natural oil metathesis
Sulfonate compositions are disclosed. The compositions include alkanesulfonates, alkenesulfonates, sultones, and hydroxy-substituted alkanesulfonates. The sulfonates comprise a reaction product of a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with a sulfonating or sulfitating agent. In one aspect, the sulfonate composition is a sulfo-estolide made by reacting a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid with a sulfonating agent, optionally in the presence of a saturated fatty acid. The sulfonates are valuable for a wide variety of end uses, including cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care (liquid cleansing products, conditioning bars, oral care products), paint additives, antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.
