Provided is a composition that contains a compound a) and at least one chemical entity b) dissolved in compound a). Compound a) has at least one sulfoxide functional group and/or one sulfone functional group, and at least one amide functional group. The composition is useful for a variety of applications, including manufacturing a film, a coating on a support, a hollow fiber, an artificial leather, a polymeric fiber, a membrane, a separator or an electrode for batteries, an electronic circuit or a sheath for the protection of electric cables.

A fluid contains a base oil and an antioxidant, the base oil consisting of sulfur-containing polyalkylene glycol where greater than 80 weight-percent of the fluid is a sulfur-containing polyalkylene glycol and less than one weight-percent of the fluid is water, with weight percent based on total fluid weight an wherein the sulfur-containing polyalkylene glycol is free of oxygen bound directly to sulfur.

A lubricant, which includes an ionic liquid including a conjugate base and a conjugate acid, wherein the conjugate acid has a group including a straight-chain hydrocarbon group having 6 or more carbon atoms, a pKa of an acid that is a source of the conjugate base in acetonitrile is 10 or less, and solubility of the ionic liquid to CF.sub.3(CHF).sub.2CF.sub.2CF.sub.3 is 0.1 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of CF.sub.3(CHF).sub.2CF.sub.2CF.sub.3.

A lubricant, which includes an ionic liquid including a conjugate base and a conjugate acid, wherein the conjugate acid has a group including a straight-chain hydrocarbon group having 6 or more carbon atoms, a pKa of an acid that is a source of the conjugate base in acetonitrile is 10 or less, and solubility of the ionic liquid to CF.sub.3(CHF).sub.2CF.sub.2CF.sub.3 is 0.1 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of CF.sub.3(CHF).sub.2CF.sub.2CF.sub.3.

A lubricating agent including an ionic liquid formed from a Bronsted acid (HX) and a Bronsted base (B), wherein the Bronsted base has a linear hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms and the difference between the pKa value of the Bronsted acid in water and the pKa value of the Bronsted base in water is 12 or more.

A lubricating agent including an ionic liquid formed from a Bronsted acid (HX) and a Bronsted base (B), wherein the Bronsted base has a linear hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms and the difference between the pKa value of the Bronsted acid in water and the pKa value of the Bronsted base in water is 12 or more.

A lubricant which includes an ionic liquid including a conjugate acid and a conjugate base having 2 or more anions in a molecule of the conjugate base, wherein the conjugate acid has a group including a straight-chain hydrocarbon group having 6 or more carbon atoms, and a pKa of an acid that is a source of the conjugate base in acetonitrile is 10 or less.

A lubricant which includes an ionic liquid including a conjugate acid and a conjugate base having 2 or more anions in a molecule of the conjugate base, wherein the conjugate acid has a group including a straight-chain hydrocarbon group having 6 or more carbon atoms, and a pKa of an acid that is a source of the conjugate base in acetonitrile is 10 or less.

The present invention is a lubricating agent containing a compound represented by the following formula 1: ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a hydrocarbon group with 6 or more and 24 or less carbons; A.sup.1O and A.sup.2O each represent an alkyleneoxy group with 2 or more and 4 or less carbons; x1 and x2 are average numbers of added moles, and each represent a number of 0 or more and 10 or less; and M is a cationic ion.
