A metalworking fluid includes a pH buffer system having one or more organic acids and one or more organic amines. The organic acids, which include aromatic carboxylic acids and C.sub.10 or higher aliphatic carboxylic acids, may replace boric acid, such that boric acid may be excluded from the metalworking fluid. The organic acids may include at least one of phthalic acid, isophthalic acid, and terephthalic acid. The one or more organic amines include aliphatic and aromatic amines having an amine value of at least 50 mg KOH/g. A method of using the metalworking fluid includes shaping a metal by contacting the metal surface with a tool while cooling and lubricating at least one of the metal surface or tool with the metalworking fluid.

LUBRICANT COMPOSITION AND USE OF THE SAME AS A PIPE DOPE

The present invention provides a lubricant composition comprising: (i) a base oil (ii) an organophilic clay-based thickener; and (iii) a solid lubricant, wherein said solid lubricant does not comprise any heavy metals. The present invention also provides the use of a lubricant composition comprising: a base oil; an organophilic clay-based thickener; and a solid lubricant, wherein said solid lubricant does not comprise any heavy metals, as a pipe dope.

LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION

A lubricating oil composition including: a lubricant base oil; (A) a triazole metal deactivator in an amount of 0.005 to 0.03 mass % in terms of nitrogen on the basis of the total mass of the composition; and (B1) a succinimide compound represented by the following general formula (1) in an amount of 0.0005 to 0.02 mass % in terms of nitrogen on the basis of the total mass of the composition:

wherein in the general formula (1), R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-36 linear or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group, and at least one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is a C8-36 linear or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group, and n represents an integer of 1 to 10.

Lubricating oil composition

A lubricating oil composition including: a lubricating base oil; (A) a poly(meth)acrylate having a weight average molecular weight of no more than 50,000, in an amount of 2 to 10 mass %; (B) a phosphite ester of the general formula (1) in an amount of 0.01 to 0.06 mass % in terms of P; (C) a thiadiazole compound in an amount of 0.01 to 0.2 mass %; and (D) a Ca salicylate detergent in an amount of 0.005 to 0.03 mass % in terms of Ca, wherein the lubricating oil composition has a kinematic viscosity at 40° C. of 4.0 to 20.0 mm.sup.2/s, and a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 1.8 to 5.2 mm.sup.2/s; and has a ratio [S]/[P] of 2.2 to 4.0, wherein the [S] represents a sulfur content, and the [P] represents a phosphorus content: ##STR00001##

The present invention provides a hydraulic fluid comprising: (a) 40 to 2000 ppm by weight in terms of nitrogen content of a corrosion inhibiting agent which is one or more compounds of formula (I): ##STR00001## and/or tribologically acceptable salts thereof, wherein in formula (I): each R.sup.1 is independently a hydrocarbyl group comprising 1 to 10 carbon atoms, x is 0 to 4, each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 is independently hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group comprising 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R.sup.4 is —NR.sup.5R.sup.6 or —OR.sup.7, each of R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 is independently an aryl group comprising 6 to 14 carbon atoms, optionally substituted with one or more hydrocarbyl groups comprising 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R.sup.7 is a hydrocarbyl group comprising 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and in each of said hydrocarbyl groups containing 2 or more carbon atoms, the carbon chain may, independently, optionally be interrupted by one or more ether groups; (b) 0.1 to 1% by weight of an ashless dispersant; and (c) a major amount of a base oil.

SUCCINIMIDE DISPERSANTS POST-TREATED WITH HETEROAROMATIC GLYCIDYL ETHERS THAT EXHIBIT GOOD SOOT HANDLING PERFORMANCE

A dispersant composition is described. The composition includes a succinimide dispersant composition comprising a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl succinimide and a heteroaromatic glycidyl ether having a structure:

wherein R.sub.1 is a heteroaryl or heteroarylalkyl group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aryl group.

Grease composition

The present invention provides a grease composition comprising (a) a base oil, (b) a thickener comprising a urea compound, (c) an amine antioxidant at 0.5 to 5% by mass based on a total mass of the composition, and (d) a quinoline antioxidant at 0.5 to 5% by mass based on the total mass of the composition.

FRICTION MODIFIER SYSTEM

This disclosure describes a lubricant additive. The additive is a friction modifier that includes a molybdenum containing compound and a tertiary amine-containing composition having the following structure:

wherein each R.sup.1 and R.sup.5 is independently a linear or branched-chain monovalent hydrocarbyl group having one to about twenty carbon atoms, wherein each R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 is independently a hydrogen, a linear or branched-chain monovalent hydrocarbyl group having one to about twenty carbon atoms, each m is independently from 0 and 4, each p is independently from 0 and 4, for each cyclic moiety m+p is from 2 and 4, and each n is independently from 1 and 6.
