Shear-Stable Oil Compositions and Processes for Making the Same
An oil composition comprising a first component having pendant groups, a second component having two or more terminal carbon chains, and optionally a third component, where a single molecule of the second component can form shearable stable structure with two molecules of the first component via van der Waals force between pendant groups and the terminal carbon chains. Shear stability of the oil can be improved if the total concentration of the heavy fraction of the shearable stable structure is controlled at a low concentration.
Shear-Stable Oil Compositions and Processes for Making the Same
An oil composition comprising a first component having pendant groups and a second component but free of a third component and process for making such oil composition, where a single molecule of the third component can form large shearable stable complex structure with two molecules of the first component via van der Waals force between pendant groups and the terminal carbon chains, and a single molecule of the second component is capable of adjoining no more than one molecule of the first type. The oil composition has high shear stability making it suitable for use in lubricants subject to repeated high shear stress events.

LUBRICANT BASESTOCK PRODUCTION WITH ENHANCED AROMATIC SATURATION
Systems and methods are provided for producing lubricant basestocks having a reduced or minimized aromatics content. A first processing stage can perform an initial amount of hydrotreating and/or hydrocracking. A first separation stage can then be used to remove fuels boiling range (and lower boiling range) compounds. The remaining lubricant boiling range fraction can then be exposed under hydrocracking conditions to a USY catalyst including a supported noble metal, such as Pt and/or Pd. The USY catalyst can have a desirable combination of catalyst properties, such as a unit cell size of 24.30 or less (or 24.24 or less), a silica to alumina ratio of at least 50 (or at least 80), and an alpha value of 20 or less (or 10 or less). In some aspects, the effluent from the second (hydrocracking) stage can be dewaxed without further separation. In such aspects, a portion of the dewaxed effluent can be used as a recycle quench stream to cool the hydrocracking effluent prior to entering the dewaxing reactor.
Process for producing novel synthetic basestocks
This disclosure relates to a liquid syndiotactic polyalphaolefin, sPAO, comprising one or more C.sub.4 to C.sub.24 monomers, said sPAO having: a) an rr triad content of 5 to 50% as measured by .sup.13C NMR; b) an mr triad content of 25 to 60% as measured by .sup.13C NMR, where the mr to mm triad ratio is at least 1.0; c) a pour point of Z C. or less, where Z=0.0648X51.2, where X=kinematic viscosity at 100 C. as reported in centistokes (cSt); d) a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of 100 cSt or more (alternatively 200 cSt or more); e) a ratio of mr triads to rr triad (as determined by .sup.13C NMR) of less than 9; f) a ratio of vinylidene to 1,2-disubstituted olefins (as determined by .sup.1H NMR) of less than 8; g) a viscosity index of 120 or more; and h) an Mn of 40,000 or less. This disclosure further relates to processes to make and use sPAOs, including those having any combination of characterics a) to h).
Lubrican composition comprising acyclic hindered amines
A lubricant composition including an acyclic amine compound. A method of lubricating a system including a fluoro-polymer seal with the lubricant composition is also provided. An additive concentrate for a lubricant composition is also provided. The acyclic amine compound is useful for adjusting the total base number of a lubricant composition. The lubricant composition is compatible with fluoropolymer seals.
SYNTHETIC INDUSTRIAL LUBRICANTS WITH IMPROVED COMPATIBILITY
The invention relates to industrial gear oil compositions that have been specially designed to have improved storage stability and/or paint compatibility and/or seal compatibility. This improvement is achieved while maintaining good performance in other areas. These improvements are particularly relevant to synthetic lubricants, such as those made with polyalphaolefin (PAO) base oils. This balance of properties has been difficult to achieve in synthetic compositions where problems in the areas of storage stability, paint compatibility and/or seal compatibility of become more pronounced. The invention also relates to processes of making such compositions and methods of using the same.
