Lubricating composition comprising a diester
Lubricating compositions for motor vehicles are disclosed. The lubricating composition is of grade according to the SAE J300 classification defined by the formula (X)W(Y), wherein X represents 0 or 5; and Y represents an integer ranging from 4 to 20; and comprises at least one diester of formula R.sup.a—C(O)—O—([C(R).sub.2].sub.n—O).sub.s—C(O)—R.sup.b (I). The composition may be used as a lubricant for an engine, in particular a vehicle engine, to reduce the fuel consumption of the engine and to improve engine cleanliness.
Lubricating oil composition for automatic transmission
This invention provides a lubricating oil composition for automobile transmission that includes: as low-viscosity base oils: (i) between 45 and 95 mass % of a Fischer-Tropsch synthetic low-viscosity base oil with a 100° C. kinematic viscosity of between 1 mm.sup.2/s and 2 mm.sup.2/s, and between 0 and 25 mass % of other than a Fischer-Tropsch synthetic low-viscosity base oil with a 100° C. kinematic viscosity of between 1 mm.sup.2/s and 2 mm.sup.2/s, and (ii) between 0 and 35 mass % of a base oil wherein the 100° C. kinematic viscosity is greater that 2 mm.sup.2/s and no greater than 5 mm.sup.2/s; and (iii) between 5 and 55 mass % of an olefin polymer or copolymer, as a high-viscosity base oil, wherein the 100° C. kinematic viscosity is between 100 and 800 mm.sup.2/s. A lubricating oil composition for an automatic transmission wherein the 100° C. kinematic viscosity of this composition is between 3.8 and 5.5 mm.sup.2/s, the viscosity index is no less than 190, the flashpoint is no less than 140° C., and the reduction ratio of the 100° C. kinematic viscosity after shear stability testing, at 60° C. for 20 hours, is maintained at no greater than 3%.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE GREASE
A lubricating grease for electric vehicle applications includes thickener 6% by weight (wt. %) to 12 wt. %, lubricating oil 57 wt. % to 92.98 wt. %, and surface-active ester 1 wt. % to 10 wt. %. The lubricating grease also includes additives including friction reducer and modifier 0.1 wt. % to 5 wt. %, anti-wear agent 0.1 wt. % to 5 wt. %, and a balance of extreme pressure agent, oxidation inhibitor, and corrosion inhibitor.
ENGINE OIL COMPOSITION
The present invention provides an engine oil composition including 70 to 95 percent by weight of a base oil and 0.01 to 15 percent by weight of a dispersant comb polymer, based on the overall weight of the engine oil composition. The dispersant comb polymer consists of 13.7% by weight of a macromonomer, which is an ester of methacrylic acid and a hydroxylated hydrogenated polybutadiene with Mn of 4750 g/mol; 51.5% by weight of n-butyl methacrylate; 17.3% by weight of LMA; 11.2% by weight of styrene; 0.2% by weight of methyl methacrylate; and 6.10% by weight of N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate. The modified dispersant inhibitor package contains 30 wt % or less of succinimide type dispersant based on the overall weight of the modified dispersant inhibitor additive package, and the engine oil composition has an SAE viscosity grade of 0W-X, wherein X is 30 or less.
Engine oil formulation with improved Sequence VIII performance
The present disclosure relates to methods of improving viscosity shear stability of a lubricating oil and lubricating oil composition comprising: a base oil of lubricating viscosity; an amount of one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s);
wherein the lubricating oil composition has one or both of the following ratios: a) a ratio of KV40° C..sub.fresh to a weight % of zinc contributed by the one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s) based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of greater than 510, wherein KV40° C..sub.fresh is the kinematic viscosity of the fresh lubricating oil composition at 40° C.; and b) a ratio of KV40° C..sub.fresh to a weight % of phosphorus contributed by the one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s) based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of greater than 560, wherein KV40° C..sub.fresh is the kinematic viscosity of the fresh lubricating oil composition at 40° C.
LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
The instant disclosure generally relates to lubricating compositions having an oil of lubricating viscosity, a boron-containing additive, a boron-free dispersant, an overbased magnesium-based detergent, an overbased calcium-based detergent, an ashless friction modifier, and, optionally, other performance additives. The instant lubricating composition has a High Temperature High Shear (HTHS) viscosity according to ASTM D4683 of less than 2.7 mPa s. The instant lubricating compositions disclosed herein may accomplish one or more of the following improve fuel economy, reduce corrosion, reduce oxidation, improve cleanliness, and improve wear performance of an internal combustion engine.
