Renewable base oil production engaging metathesis
11643616 · 2023-05-09 · ·

A process is disclosed for producing renewable products, such as a renewable base oil, from a feedstock of biological origin. The process includes subjecting a feedstock containing free fatty acids and fatty acid glycerides, wherein at least one hydrocarbon chain is unsaturated, to esterification reaction in the presence of an alcohol. An ester stream thereby obtained is then subjected to metathesis conditions in the presence of a renewable alkene to obtain a metathesis product. Separation of the metathesis product includes recovery of a fraction containing or consisting essentially of C16 fatty acid esters, which is subjected to ketonisation reaction conditions to produce long chain ketones, which after hydrotreatment meet requirements for a renewable base oil. Ketonisation reaction produces renewable alkene usable in metathesis reaction.

BIO-LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS THEREOF
20230136801 · 2023-05-04 ·

The present disclosure provides a method of producing a lubricant composition comprising the steps of hydrolyzing a starting material to provide a hydrolyzed product mixture, reacting the hydrolyzed product mixture under conditions capable of producing a condensation product mixture, contacting the condensation product mixture with a cyclic compound to provide a coupled product mixture, and hydrogenating the coupled product mixture to provide the lubricant composition. In addition, other methods and compositions thereof are also provided.

PROCESS FOR CONVERTING BIOSOURCED TRIGLYCERIDES INTO A SINGLE-PHASE COMPOSITION CONTAINING FATTY ACID ESTER AND RELATED USES AS BIOFUEL OR LUBRICANT
20230357666 · 2023-11-09 ·

The present techniques relate to facilitating conversion of biosourced triglycerides into fatty acid esters by combining the biosourced triglycerides with a carbonate ester in presence of an alcohol, under catalytic transesterification conditions. A reaction mixture can be heated to a reaction temperature to operate a transesterification of the biosourced triglyceride with the carbonate ester under catalysis of the alcohol thereby forming a single-phase composition comprising the fatty acid esters. The reaction mixture can have a molar ratio of the biosourced triglyceride over the carbonate ester between 1:0.1 and 1:20. Compositions comprising the produced single-phase composition, and optionally an additive, can be used as diesel, jet fuel or lubricant.

Biodegradable fluids

The incorporation of highly refined, low viscosity index base oils along with a polymeric thickener produces a final readily biodegradable fluid with a significantly high viscosity. The present invention allows the formulation of a high viscosity readily biodegradable fluid where the vast majority of the fluid is mineral oil. Previous uses of mineral oils only allowed for formulation of substantially lower viscosity readily biodegradable fluids.
