SUSTAINABLE BASE OILS FOR LUBRICANTS
Sustainable lubricant compositions made from recycled thermoplastic polyesters and other reclaimed or biorenewable reactants and a method of formulating them are disclosed. The lubricant compositions comprise a polyester base oil, which incorporates recurring units from a digested thermoplastic polyester, a low-molecular-weight polyol, and C.sub.8-C.sub.24 fatty acid. The base oil has a number-average molecular weight within the range of 300 to 5000 g/mol, a hydroxyl value less than 50 mg KOH/g, and a viscosity at 40 C. less than 5000 cSt. Some of the lubricant compositions comprise the polyester base oil and one or more additives including anti-wear agents, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants, thickeners, detergents, and the like. The lubricants have properties that rival those of commercial products made from nonrenewable hydrocarbon blends or polyol esters and are useful for many practical applications such as internal combustion engine oils, gear lubrication oils, hydraulic oils, compressor oils, metal working fluids, and lubricating greases.
Lubricant Viscosity Modification System

BIODEGRADABLE LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
The present invention provides a biodegradable lubricating oil composition containing 50% by mass or more of a synthetic ester base oil (A), 0.1 to 3% by mass of an amine-based antioxidant (B1), 0.1 to 3% by mass of a phenol-based antioxidant (B2), and 0.01 to 2% by mass of a sulfur-phosphorus-based extreme-pressure agent (C), wherein the transmittance at 3,0051 cm.sup.1 of a 0.1 mm-thick liquid film of the composition, as measured through IR absorptiometry, is 50% or more.
Dehydrating and degassing unit
The invention relates to devices for purifying hydraulic and dielectric fluids (oils and fuels) of dispersed and dissolved water. The unit for dehydrating and degassing hydraulic and dielectric fluids comprises a vacuum tank, an atomizer with a spray member, said atomizer being disposed in the vacuum tank, a hydraulic feed pump connected by a pipe to the atomizer, a hydraulic discharge pump connected by a pipe to the tank, and a vacuum pump connected by a pipe to the tank, wherein the atomizer is arranged vertically in the lower part of the vacuum tank with the spray member oriented upward and consists of: a T fitting with a lower inlet for oil and with a lateral air inlet; a mixing chamber disposed above the T fitting; and a spray member disposed above the mixing chamber. The technical result consists in providing more efficient dehydration and degassing of hydraulic and dielectric fluids, increasing useful volume of the vacuum tank without increasing the dimensions thereof, reducing the dispersivity of fluid sprayed from the atomizer, and simplifying the design.
Process for Preparing Polymers and Compositions Thereof
The present invention provides a process for preparing a polymer, employing the steps of: (1) contacting a free radical initiator; a chain transfer agent containing a thiocarbonyl thio group and a free radical leaving group; and a radically polymerisable monomer, to form a polymer chain; and (2) contacting the polymer chain of step (1) with at least one of a polyvalent coupling agent, a polymerisation inhibitor, a grafting acylating agent, an amine and an oil of lubricating viscosity. The invention further provides compositions and uses for the polymer.
Lubricant additive compositions containing thiophosphates and thiophosphate derivatives
The invention relates to thiophosphates and derivatives thereof useful as antiwear additive components, lubricant additive compositions and lubricant compositions each comprising such compounds, methods for making and using the same, including methods of lubricating machines and machine parts and methods of extending the useful life of elastomeric seal components of such machines.
AROMATIC TETRAHEDRAL BORATE COMPOUNDS FOR LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS
A lubricating composition includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ionic tetrahedral borate compound which includes a cation and a tetrahedral borate anion which includes a boron atom, the boron atom having at least one aromatic bidentate di-oxo ligand. The compound may be represented by formula (I), where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are selected from C.sub.1-48 hydrocarbyl groups or together form a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered ring; R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 together represent a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic ring; m is 0 or 1; X is hydrogen, a C.sub.1-24 hydrocarbyl group, OR.sup.5, NHR.sup.5, or=O, R.sup.5 is a C.sub.1-24 hydrocarbyl group; M represents the cation; and n is at least 1. The cation may be selected to provide detergent and/or dispersant properties to the lubricating composition. In the case of ammonium cations, the molecular weight may be 260 g/mol or higher for providing a highly soluble compound, particularly when X is=O.
