Polyolefin-derived dispersants
Ethylene-C.sub.3-C.sub.10 alpha olefin copolymers, dispersants and lubricating oils/fuel compositions incorporating dispersants, and related methods are generally described herein. The copolymer may comprise ethylene-derived units and C.sub.3-C.sub.10 alpha-olefin-derived units. The C.sub.3-C.sub.10 alpha-olefin-derived units may have a carbon number from three to ten. For example, the C.sub.3-C.sub.10 alpha-olefin-derived units may be propylene-derived units.
LUBRICANT ADDITIVE AND PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
It is an object of this invention to provide a lubricant additive applicable integrally to all of different types of lubricants for various applications. A lubricant additive adapted to be blended to a lubricating oil, which is characterized by comprising a synthesized base oil of the polyolester type, the content of which to be contained in the lubricant additive is in a range of from 30.0 w/w % to 60.0 w/w %, calcium sulfonate containing calcium carbonate formed in the calcite crystal structure, the content of which to be contained in the lubricant additive is in a range of from 5.0 w/w % to 30.0 w/w %, a poly-alpha-olefin oligomer, an anti-oxidant of the zinc dithiophosphate type, succinimide, an extreme pressure agent of the thiadiazole type and an anti-oxidant of the phenol type, is provided.
THERMOASSOCIATIVE ADDITIVE COMPOSITIONS, THE ASSOCIATION OF WHICH IS CONTROLLED, AND LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING SAME
The invention concerns additive compositions obtained by mixing at least two thermoassociative and exchangeable compounds and at least one boronic ester compound that enables the association of these two copolymers to be controlled; a lubricating composition obtained by mixing at least one lubricating base oil, at least two thermoassociative and exchangeable compounds, and at least one boronic ester compound that enables the association of these two copolymers to be controlled; a method for adjusting the viscosity of a lubricating composition obtained by mixing at least one lubricating base oil and at least two thermoassociative and exchangeable compounds; and the use of a boronic ester compound to adjust the viscosity of a lubricating composition.
Borated detergents and their lubricating applications
Disclosed herein is an overbased alkaline earth metal hydrocarbyl-substituted salicylate detergent comprising both carbonate and borate moieties and exhibiting the following characteristics: a basicity index of at least 3.8; a ratio of soap content to mass % boron is greater than 55 mmol/kg; a soap content of at least 330 mmol/kg; a TBN, measured according to ASTM D2896, of at least 220 mg KOH/g; and a mass ratio of borate to carbonate from 0.75 to 6.0, wherein the alkaline earth metal comprises calcium and/or magnesium, and the hydrocarbyl substitution comprises 9 to 30 carbon atoms. Methods of making the boron-containing salicylate detergent, specifically to be package-stable, are also disclosed, as well as package-stable lubricant additive package concentrates and lubricating oil compositions containing same.
Friction and wear reduction additives
The present invention relates to additives for reducing friction and wear in lubricants. In particular, the present invention relates to novel salts and their use in lubricating oil compositions for reducing friction and wear. In particular, the present invention relates to one or more ionic liquids, wherein the one or more ionic liquids comprise one or more cations and one or more Group 6 metal mononuclear metallate anions.
THERMOASSOCIATIVE AND EXCHANGEABLE COPOLYMERS, COMPOSITION COMPRISING SAME
Compositions resulting from the mixing of at least one copolymer A1, resulting from the copolymerization of at least one monomer functionalized by diol functions with at least one styrenic monomer, and at least one compound A2 comprising at least two boronic ester functions. They have very varied rheological properties depending on the proportion of compounds A1 and A2 used. Composition resulting from the mixing of at least one lubricating oil with such a composition of associative and exchangeable polymers and use of this composition for lubricating a mechanical part.
Composition for use in oils
A composition comprising a sheared antifoam solution/mixture with a mean particle size from about 0.01 microns to about 0.5 microns and a maximum particle size of less than about 1 micron. In this composition the sheared antifoam solution/mixture comprises antifoam solution/mixture comprising an antifoam and a base stock.
Additive concentrates for the formulation of lubricating oil compositions
A lubricant additive concentrate containing 30 to 80 mass % oil of lubricating viscosity and from 20 to 70 mass % of additive; wherein from 30 to 90 mass % of the additive is (i) hybrid overbased colloidal detergent derived from sulfonate surfactant and hydroxybenzoate surfactant; and (ii) polyalkenyl succinimide dispersant derived from a polyalkene having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) of from 1300 to 2500 daltons, and wherein the mass ratio of polyalkenyl succinimide dispersant (ii) to hybrid overbased colloidal detergent (i) in the lubricant additive is from 25:1 to 1:1.
Solvency enhancer compositions, methods of preparation and methods of use thereof
Disclosed are solvency enhancer compositions, for example, as additives to lubricating oils and as formulated in lubricating oil compositions and associated methods of preparation and use thereof. The compositions and methods can dissolve at least one of oxidation products and other organic polar compounds, due to lubricant degradation, formed and suspended in oil compositions including adding an effective amount of a solvency enhancer to the oils, wherein the solvency enhancer includes Guerbet alcohols. Further described are methods for dissolving organic deposits in an oil system including adding an effective amount of a solvency enhancer to the oil system, wherein the solvency enhancer includes Guerbet alcohols. Also provided are methods for preventing sludge and varnish formation in in-service oils including adding an effective amount of a solvency enhancer to the oils, wherein the solvency enhancer includes Guerbet alcohols.
Use of specific derivatives of quaternized nitrogen compounds as additives in fuels and lubricants
The invention relates to the use of specific quaternised nitrogen compounds which are also subjected to specific transesterification or amidation, as a fuel and lubricant additive or kerosene additive, such as in particular as a detergent additive, for decreasing or preventing deposits in the injection systems of direct-injection diesel engines, in particular in common rail injection systems, for decreasing the fuel consumption of direct-injection diesel engines, in particular of diesel engines having common rail injection systems, and for minimizing the power loss in direct-injection diesel engines, in particular in diesel engines having common rail injection systems. The invention further relates to the use as an additive for petrol, in particular for operation of DISI engines.
