There is provided a connector, for introducing or extracting a material to or from at least one receptacle, comprising a housing extending between a distal end and a proximal end, the housing comprising, at least at one end, a pierceable seal; a hollow needle mounted, at least partially, within the housing between the distal end and the proximal end of the housing, a first end of the hollow needle being connected or connectable to a first corresponding receptacle, and a second end of the hollow needle facing the pierceable seal at an end of the housing; and an actuating mechanism acting on the housing or the hollow needle to enable the hollow needle to pierce the pierceable seal thereby forming a communication through the pierceable seal, such that material is able to transfer through the connector.

Sterile sensor insertion

The present invention provides a system for the insertion of a pre-sterilized sensor probe into a sterile vessel. The system of the invention provides a reliable and straightforward way to insert one or more sterile probes into a sterile vessel. The present invention also provides a sterile vessel that includes one or more of the systems of the invention. The sterile vessel can be a flexible or semi-rigid bag or tubing of the type typically used for carrying out biochemical and/or biological processes and/or manipulating liquids and other products of such processes. Furthermore, the present invention provides a method for aseptically inserting a probe into a sterile vessel where the method makes use of the system of the invention.

The present invention relates in a first aspect to a plug flow tubular bioreactor having an integral or multi-part tube adapted for cultivation, and, optionally, infection, viral transduction, or transfection of eukaryotic cells. In a further aspect, the present invention relates to a plug flow tubular bioreactor system comprising the plug flow tubular bioreactor according to the present invention. Further, the present invention relates to a method for preparing virus particles, vectors, cells or other molecules including toxic molecules using the plug flow tubular bioreactor or the system according to the present invention. Finally, the present invention relates to the use of a plug flow tubular bioreactor for the preparation of virus particles, vectors including viral vectors, cells including modified cells or other molecules including toxic molecules.

Single Use Bioreactor

A single-use bioreactor is provided. The single-use bioreactor may include a bioprocess container, a shell, at least one agitator, at least one sparger, at least one gas filter inlet port for the sparger(s) and headspace overlay, at least one fill port, at least one harvest port, at least one sample port, and at least one probe. In examples, at least one controller may monitor and control one or more parameters associated with the single-use bioreactor A method to cultivate and propagate mammalian cells is also provided. The method may include cultivating under suitable conditions and in a suitable culture medium in a first single-use bioreactor, transferring the medium containing the cells obtained by propagation from the at least one mammalian cell is into a second single-use bioreactor, transferring the medium containing the cells obtained by propagation from the at least one mammalian cell is into a third single-use bioreactor, and cultivating the cells in the third bioreactor.

Single-use connection device

The invention relates to a single-use connection device for insertion into a connection opening of a bioreactor, in particular in a connection opening of a top plate of a dimensionally-stable bioreactor or in a connection opening of a connection element of a pouch bioreactor. The single-use connection device is inserted in a connection opening of a top plate of a bioreactor and/or in a connection opening of a pouch reactor and is provided with multiple passages and an attachment section, wherein the single-use connection device is formed as a single piece and is made of plastic. The attachment section, on an outer peripheral surface, has an attachment structure for attaching the single-use connection device in the connection opening.

System for detecting at least one presence of foam of a medium in a bioreactor plant, wherein the system comprises: —a bioreactor plant having at least one disposable container for receiving the medium that may comprise the foam; and—at least two capacitive sensor units which are attached at at least two different situating positions of the bioreactor plant, wherein the capacitive sensor units each comprise at least one electrode system for capacitive measurement and are able to detect the presence of foam at the at least two situating positions on the basis of the capacitive measurement; and wherein the capacitive sensor units are designed to transmit captured data relating to the presence of foam to at least one monitoring unit for monitoring, open-loop and/or closed-loop control of foam formation in the bioreactor plant on the basis of said data.
