Drosophila Stock Maintenance
An insect culture maintenance system includes a sequence of open-ended cylindrical tubes [500, 502, 504, 506] joined pairwise alternately at their tops and bottoms using multiple dual-cap connectors. Each dual-capped connector has a channel from an inside of a first cap to an inside of a second cap. In use, connectors that cap the bottoms of the tubes [508, 512] are filled with insect food media [518, 520], while connectors that cap the tops of the tubes [510] are open. As a result of this design, adults pass from one tube to the next through the top dual-cap connectors, while larvae pass from one tube to the next through the bottom dual-cap connectors, resulting in propagation of subsequent generations of insects through the sequence of tubes.
BIOARTIFICIAL LIVER BASED ON HUMAN iPSCs-DERIVED HEPATOCYTE-LIKE CELLS AND MULTILAYER POROUS BIOREACTOR
A bioartificial liver (BAL) based on human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-derived hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs) and a multilayer porous bioreactor is provided. The plasma separation/retransfusion loop part includes a blood input pipe, an exhaust pipe spring clamp, a blood input peristaltic pump, a heparin pump, a plasma separation column, a first pressure monitor, and a heater. The cell reactor/plasma component exchange double-loop part includes a plasma input peristaltic pump, and a semipermeable membrane exchange column, a plasma exchange peristaltic pump, a red blood cell (RBC) pool, a membrane lung, a multilayer porous bioreactor, a second pressure monitor, and a third pressure monitor arranged in a 37° C. dedicated incubator. An outlet of the third pressure monitor and a blood cell outlet are connected to an inlet of the first pressure monitor, and then connected to the heater and a blood output pipe in sequence.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROL OF CELL PROCESSING SYSTEM
Disclosed herein are cell processing systems, devices, and methods thereof. A system for cell processing may comprise a plurality of instruments each independently configured to perform one or more cell processing operations upon a cartridge, and a robot capable of moving the cartridge between each of the plurality of instruments.
GEL TRAY FOR BACTERIA TRANSFORMATION LAB
A gel tray for a bacterial transformation lab exercise has a plastic body with four parallel gel channels and four filling ports, one for each channel into which unmodified bacteria and heat-shocked bacteria can be injected by students along with appropriate reaction constituents to demonstrate transformation of the bacteria under visualization. A seal may be provided to seal the tops of the gel channels and a lid can cover the gel tray during incubation.
Biological and Chemical Process Utilizing Chemoautotrophic Microorganisms for the Chemosynthetic Fixation of Carbon Dioxide and/or Other Inorganic Carbon Sources into Organic Compounds and the Generation of Additional Useful Products
The invention described herein presents compositions and methods for a multistep biological and chemical process for the capture and conversion of carbon dioxide and/or other forms of inorganic carbon into organic chemicals including biofuels or other useful industrial, chemical, pharmaceutical, or biomass products. One or more process steps utilizes chemoautotrophic microorganisms to fix inorganic carbon into organic compounds through chemosynthesis. An additional feature described are process steps whereby electron donors used for the chemosynthetic fixation of carbon are generated by chemical or electrochemical means, or are produced from inorganic or waste sources. An additional feature described are process steps for recovery of useful chemicals produced by the carbon dioxide capture and conversion process, both from chemosynthetic reaction steps, as well as from non-biological reaction steps.
Multiwell instrument
A multiwell instrument includes a vessel having an inside; a plurality of culture plates arranged in the inside of the vessel, each individual one of the plurality of culture plates having an inside in which material to be examined can be stored; and filters disposed inside the respective culture plates to partition the insides of the respective culture plates into at least two wells which are horizontally adjacent.
MICROSCALE BIOREACTOR SYSTEM FOR AND METHOD OF PROVIDING CELL CULTURE GROWTH CONDITIONS IN A SMALL-VOLUME VESSEL
A microscale bioreactor system for and method is disclosed for providing improved cell culture growth conditions in a small-volume vessel. For example, a microbioreactor system is provided that may include a small-volume vessel and wherein the small-volume vessel may include a field of actuatable surface-attached microposts. Further, the microbioreactor system may include an actuation mechanism for actuating the surface-attached microposts into movement. In some embodiments, the surface-attached microposts may be functionalized with, for example, activation signals for converting standard T-cells in a growth media to activated T-cells. Further, a method of using the microbioreactor system for providing cell culture growth conditions including enhanced oxygenation and nutrients distribution in a small-volume vessel is provided.
Cryogel 3D scaffolds and methods for producing thereof
A method of producing a cryogel-based multicompartment 3D scaffold is herein disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: a) providing a first frozen polymeric layer on a refrigerated support kept at subzero temperature; b) providing subsequent polymeric layers to obtain a stack of polymeric layers by possibly modulating the subzero temperature of the refrigerated support; c) optionally incubating the final polymeric structure at subzero temperature; and d) placing the produced cryogel at a temperature above 0° C., the method being characterized in that each subsequent layer i) is deposited on the previous one after freezing of this latter; ii) is deposited on the previous one before the complete polymerization of this latter; and iii) is deposited with a temperature higher than the freezing temperature of the previously deposited layer. Cryogel scaffolds obtained from the method of the invention are also disclosed.
BIOFABRICATION SYSTEM
A system with reusable components and methods are disclosed for culturing, forming, perfusing, and maintaining a perfusible-tissue construct. The system uses a production container comprising a floor, a wall extending from the floor, wherein the floor and wall define a production reservoir, a formation section defined in the floor, wherein the formation section comprises at least one well, and a grip extending outwardly from the formation section; wherein the production container is made of a biocompatible material that remains stable when autoclaved.
