CONTINUOUS PERFUSION BIOREACTOR SYSTEM
Systems and methods for containing and manipulating liquids, including vessels and unit operations or components of cell culture, cell containment, bioreactor, and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing systems, are provided. In certain embodiments, such vessels and unit operations are directed to continuous perfusion reactor or bioreactor systems and may include one or more disposable components. For instance, in one aspect, a system includes an apparatus in the form of a bioreactor for harvesting cells which produce one or more products. The apparatus may include a disposable, collapsible bag adapted for containing a liquid, the collapsible bag in fluid communication with a liquid-solids (e.g., cell) separation device. For example, an outlet of the collapsible bag may be connected to an inlet of the separation device, and an outlet of the separation device may be connected to an inlet of the collapsible bag for recycle. Accordingly, after separating the cells from the liquid in the separation device, the cells can be flowed back into the collapsible bag where they can be re-harvested. Meanwhile, product contained in the liquid can be collected in a separate container. The efficiency of product formation in such a system may be enhanced by using mixing systems described herein.
LIQUID THICKNESS CONTROLLING MECHANISM, CULTURE DEVICE, AND LIQUID THICKNESS CONTROLLING METHOD
A liquid thickness of a medium in a culture bag used in cell culture can be controlled. A liquid thickness controlling mechanism that controls the liquid thickness of the medium filled in the culture bag provided with at least one port and formed of a soft packing material includes a detection portion that measures a change caused by a change in the liquid thickness of the medium and a control portion that controls operation of liquid delivery means disposed in a tubular member connecting the culture bag and a medium bag based on detection information inputted from the detection portion so as to control delivery of the medium between the culture bag and the medium bag. Using the liquid thickness controlling mechanism makes it possible to control the liquid thickness of the medium in the culture bag being used.
LIGHT AND TEMPERATURE DEVICE FOR OPTIMZING THE PRODUCTION OF BIOMASS IN BIOREACTORS
The invention relate to a light and temperature device for increasing and optimizing the production of biomass in bioreactors, said device comprising an LED light arrangement with LED light arrays and cooling fins facing away from the LED light arrays. The light and temperature device further comprising at least one fastening means for removably fastening the light arrangement to a transparent incubation vessel the LED light arrangement being oriented in relation to the incubation vessel such that light radiation emitted by the LED light arrangement in directed towards the incubation vessel.
METHOD FOR CULTIVATING MICROALGAL BIOMASS AND APPARATUS FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION THEREOF
The invention relates to a process and equipment for cultivating and producing a biomass from microalgae, primarily plankton. A microalgal biomass is cultivated in a single bioreactor chamber in the shape of a vertically oriented parallelepiped. The culture mixture is illuminated by artificial light sources mounted on the inner side of one of the broad walls of the bioreactor chamber in horizontal rows throughout the height of the bioreactor chamber. The culture mixture is illuminated cyclically. Spray heads are mounted on the inner side of the opposite wall of the bioreactor chamber so that 4 spray heads are arranged symmetrically around each artificial light source. The pH value of the culture mixture is maintained in a range of 8.5-9.5 by the addition thereto of a lactic acid bacteria-containing solution at the beginning of each light cycle in an amount of 1-3 ml per litre of culture mixture, said solution having a pH value selected in a range of 4.0-5.0.
BIOREACTOR AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ADHERENT CELL CULTURES EMPLOYING SAID BIOREACTOR
Bioreactor and production process of adherent cell cultures that uses the bioreactor. The bioreactor includes a recipient with a cover, and further includes internally a bracket from which protrudes at least one tray that supports a three-dimensional polymer-based element mounted on it, such that when the bioreactor is filled with a culture medium the at least one tray and the three-dimensional polymer-based element are surrounded by the culture medium.
The process includes the following steps: the bracket, with the at least one tray of the bioreactor, with a three-dimensional polymer-based element is immersed in the culture medium, cells that are desired to be planted on the three-dimensional polymer-based element are inoculated from outside the bioreactor, and the culture is left in the bioreactor so that the cellular proliferation is produced.
CELL SUSPENSION TREATMENT APPARATUS
A cell suspension treatment apparatus has a circulation circuit and a filling liquid supply source that supplies a filling liquid to the circulation circuit. The circulation circuit includes a hollow fiber membrane filter, a reservoir, a pump that is provided on a downstream side of the reservoir and on an upstream side of the hollow fiber membrane filter, and a valve that is provided on the downstream side of the reservoir and on an upstream side of the pump. The filling liquid supply source is connected to a portion of the circulation circuit between the first valve and the pump. After the concentrated cell suspension is stored in the reservoir, in a state where the valve is closed and the pump is driven, the filling liquid supply source starts supplying the filling liquid to the circulation circuit to push the cell suspension, which remains in a portion of the circulation circuit from the pump to the inlet port of the reservoir, to flow toward the reservoir by the filling liquid.
Aquaculture Bioreactor
A gliding wave reactor includes a base, a tank, a suspension bracket, and an actuator. The tank is configured to hold a liquid. The suspension bracket is configured to suspend the tank over the base. The actuator is fixed to the base and configured to move the tank to create an environment in the liquid for cultivating marine life.
CONCENTRATION DEVICE AND CONCENTRATION METHOD
A concentration device for concentrating a liquid containing a target object, the concentration device including: a container configured to store the liquid containing the target object; a filter in the container; and a position control portion configured to change a position of the filter in the container.
MULTI-POSITION SUPPORTS FOR CELL CULTURE APPARATUSES
A multi-position support for a multi-layer cell culture apparatus includes a primary base that rests against a support member in an upright configuration. A support surface is offset vertically from the primary base in the upright configuration. The support surface supports the multi-layer cell culture apparatus with the multi-layer cell culture apparatus located thereon. An intermediate surface extends between the primary base and the support surface. The intermediate surface meets the primary base at an interface that extends at an oblique angle to sides of the primary base. The multi-position support has a tilted configuration where the multi-position support is rotated about the interface such that the support surface is closer to the support member than in the upright configuration with the support surface supporting the multi-layer cell culture apparatus thereon.
