METHODS FOR QUANTIFYING THE IMPACT OF SHEAR STRESS ON MAMMALIAN CELL LINES
Methods for characterizing mechanical properties of cells at different stress levels. The disclosed inventions can determine the impact of shear stress on cells in bioproduction processes.
System and method for treating excrement of livestock
A system for treating excrement of livestock includes: reduced-pressure fermentation drying equipment configured to store excrement of livestock in an airtight container, heat and stir the excrement of livestock under reduced pressure so that a temperature of the excrement of livestock is within a predetermined temperature range, decompose organic components of organic matter using microorganisms, and obtain volume-reduced dried product; and heat source equipment that is provided on a downstream side of the reduced-pressure fermentation drying equipment and generates a heat source by combusting the obtained volume-reduced dried product.
Chemical Reformer Systems And Methods
A chemical reformer system has an inlet, a digester, a series of chemical reformers, coolers and separators. The temperatures and pressures of the digester and chemical reformers may be regulated, where the pressure decreases from the first chemical reformer to the last and the temperature increases from the first chemical reformer to the last. The chemical reformer system may be utilized to convert feedstock biomass to output compounds, such as bio-oils.
Smart micro bioreactor platform for high throughput mechanical stimulation of cardiac microtissue
The present disclosure relates to a pneumatic microfluidic platform for high-throughput studies of cardiac hypertrophy that enables repetitive (hundreds of thousands of times) and robust (over several weeks) manipulation of cardiac μtissues. The platform is reusable for stable and reproducible mechanical stimulation of cardiac μtissues (each containing only 500 cells). Heterotypic and homotypic μtissues produced in the device were pneumatically loaded in a range of regimes, with real-time on-chip analysis of tissue phenotypes. Concentrated loading of the three-dimensional cardiac tissue faithfully recapitulated the pathology of volume overload seen in native heart tissue. Sustained volume overload of μtissues was sufficient to induce pathological cardiac remodeling associated with upregulation of the fetal gene program, in a dose-dependent manner.
Hydrogel-based organ-on-chip microfluidic device
The present invention relates generally to an organ-on-chip microfluidic device (10) comprising a first element (11), a second element (16), and a hydrogel layer (14) which is interposed between the first element and the second element. The shapes and dimensions of the first element, the second element, and the hydrogel layer are determined to enable the hydrogel layer to expand and retract in a given direction in the conditions of use disclosed herein, in particular to mimic organ functions in vitro. The present invention further relates to method of producing the microfluidic device and to application of said microfluidic device in biomedical field, especially for mimicking the architecture and function of organs.
Method for gas enrichment and simultaneously for displacement of a fluid, and system for controlling the cell environment on a corresponding multi-well cell culture plate
A method displacing a fluid and simultaneously gas enriching a liquid cell culture medium with a gas. The method includes injecting a controlled volume of a gas or gas mixture into a one chamber by using a gas flow controller, the injection taking place through a gas inlet into a volume of liquid. This injection produces bubbling and agitation of the volume of liquid; a build-up of gas or gas mixture due to buoyancy in a hermetic space formed by the volume of liquid and the chamber, and a pressure increase in the chamber until a sufficient controlled pressure is reached of less than or equal to 10 bar. This increase displaces the volume of liquid by a fluid outlet connecting the volume of liquid to the exterior of the chamber. Also provided are a device implementing the method and a cell culture system in a multi-well culture plate.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PRODUCING A CARBONATE-CONTAINING SPECIES-RICH, NITROGEN-CONTAINING SPECIES-FREE SOLUTION
A method for producing a carbonate-containing species-rich, nitrogen-containing species-free solution from a urea-rich solution is proposed. The method comprising the steps of: providing a first reservoir comprising a first mixture including urea and a catalyser comprising an enzymatic catalyser and/or a microorganism; allowing an enzymatic reaction catalysed by the catalyser to decompose urea, thereby obtaining a second mixture comprising nitrogen-containing species and carbonate-containing species; converting at least some of the nitrogen-containing species into gaseous nitrogen-containing species to obtain a third mixture comprising the gaseous nitrogen-containing species and the carbonate-containing species; filtering the third mixture by a gas- permeable filter, thereby separating at least some of the gaseous nitrogen-containing species from the carbonate-containing species while keeping the catalyser away from the gas-permeable filter; and collecting the so-obtained carbonate-containing species-rich, nitrogen-containing species-free solution.
SYSTEM FOR CULTURING CELLS INCLUDING REMOVING AIR IN CELL CULTURE BAG
An object of the present invention is to provide a novel approach capable of conveniently and efficiently removing air that has entered a cell culture bag at the time of addition of a culture medium. The present invention provides a system for culturing cells or cell aggregates using a cell culture bag, the cell culture bag having a lower face comprising a plurality of recesses, the culturing system comprising a mechanism which removes air in the cell culture bag through the cell culture bag by applying a pressure before cell addition to the cell culture bag supplemented with a culture medium.
Regulated vacuum off-gassing of gas filter for fluid processing system and related methods
A method for filtering a gas includes delivering a gas into a compartment of a gas filter assembly; applying a partial vacuum to the gas filter assembly so that the partial vacuum assists in drawing the gas through a porous filter body of the gas filter assembly that is at least partially disposed within the compartment of the gas filter assembly; and regulating the application of the partial vacuum based on a pressure reading of the gas upstream or downstream of the gas filter assembly.
