A method of dying alternating hair strands of a subject comprises clipping a hair coloring adapter onto a first segment of hair of a subject; coupling the hair coloring adapter to a hair coloring device; activating the hair coloring device; and drawing the hair coloring adapter along the segment of hair of the subject, thereby brushing hair formulation onto selected hair strands of the subject in alternating patterns based on positions of the formulation application zones and the non-application zones.

A system comprises circuitry configured to compute, based on an initial shade of hair and a desired shade of the hair, a hair treatment modality to at least approximately achieve the desired shade with a time-sensitive application of a cosmetic composition, such as a hair bleaching formula, that correlates with characteristics of the hair and a projected responsiveness of the hair to the treatment. The system can receive data related to a current progress of the bleaching and recompute, based on the in-progress data and the desired shade, the hair treatment modality for accuracy and precision.

A formulation cartridge including a body portion configured to contain a formulation pouch, a release located on a body portion of the formulation cartridge, a handle portion configured to enclose at least a portion of the body portion, and a protrusion internal to the handle portion, where the protrusion is configured to apply pressure onto the release when the body portion is inserted into the handle portion, and where the pressure degasses the body portion of the formulation pouch. Further, a method of degassing the formula cartridge including placing the formula pouch into the body portion of the formulation cartridge, inserting the body portion into the handle portion, contacting the protrusion inside the handle portion with the release on the body portion, applying pressure to the release with the protrusion, and degassing the formulation cartridge.

A device for applying a liquid material to hair and detangling the hair is disclosed. The device comprises a main body having an interior, and a handle extending from the main body. The handle comprises a liquid storage area in fluid communication with the interior. The liquid storage area stores a liquid material. The device comprises bristles connecting at a bottom of the main body. The bristles comprise holes in fluid communication with the interior area to allow the liquid material to flow through the bristles. The device comprises an actuator system positioned at the handle. The actuator system controls the flow of the liquid material from the liquid storage area to the interior and the bristles.
