Water heater and method of controlling a water heater

A water heater is provided which comprises a water storage tank made of enameled metal, an anode electrode (e.g. an anode rod) at least partly inside the water storage tank and a corrosion protection unit configured to impress current into the anode to provide a corrosion protection for the water storage tank. The corrosion protection unit further comprises a microprocessor configured to control the impressing of the current to the anode electrode during impression process cycles and to control the operation of the corrosion protection. The corrosion protection unit furthermore comprises a battery unit or an accumulator unit configured to supply energy to the microprocessor during grid power outages. The microprocessor is configured to activate the power saving mode during grid power outages during which an amount of impressed current and/or an impression process cycle is reduced.

The invention relates to a shaft contact device 1 to make an electrical connection between a shaft and an earth point.

Device 1 has a bracket 10 for connection to a point spaced from the rotating shaft, base member 20 mounted on the bracket 10, a head member 30 having at least one electrically conductive brush 34A, 34B to engage the shaft. A pair of arms 40A, 40B each has a first end connected to spaced pivot points on the base member and a second end connected to spaced pivot points on the head member. A spring means 50 biases the head towards the shaft to engage the brush on the shaft.

In use the base member, head member and spaced arms forming a parallelogram arm whereby the head member brushes contact the shaft at a constant angle as the brushes are worn.

Adjustable drill string housings are described for use in the directional drilling of wellbores, e.g. wellbores for hydrocarbon recovery wells. The adjustable drill string housings permit adjustment of a bend angle in the housings without removing the housings from a wellbore. In some exemplary embodiments, the bend angle can be adjusted by changing the internal stresses in a support member carried by the housings. In other embodiments, the bend angle may be adjusted by causing failure of sacrificial support members carried by the housings, and the failure may be caused by delivering chemicals through a chemical delivery system to the sacrificial support members. Methods of operating the adjustable drill string housings include multi-lateral drilling operations wherein the bend angle is adjusted when a casing window has been detected.

An anode assembly for the corrosion protection of metal parts embedded in concrete. An ion-conducting material is placed between the metal part that is to be protected and the anode, wherein the ion-conducting material exhibits higher ionic conductivity than the surrounding concrete, thus directing the protective current specifically towards the metal part. A galvanic sacrificial anode may be provided, made, e.g., from zinc and its alloys or aluminum and its alloys. The purpose of the material with higher ionic conductivity than the surrounding concrete is to selectively direct the protective galvanic current towards the metal part that is to be protected. The ion conducting material exhibits 20%, and more preferably 50%, higher conductivity than the surrounding concrete. A suitable ion-conducting material that exhibits ion-exchange properties may comprise tecto-alumo-silicate materials. The anode may be placed in close contact to or may be embedded into the ion-conducting material as well.

Anti-corrosion wear-resistant drill pipe and preparation method thereof

An anti-corrosion wear-resistant drill pipe and a preparation method thereof are provided. The anti-corrosion wear-resistant drill pipe includes a drill pipe main body, sacrificial anodes and wear-resistant belts. The sacrificial anodes include a first sacrificial anode, a second sacrificial anode, a third sacrificial anode and a fourth sacrificial anode, which have an open-circuit potential of 1.31 to 1.10 V, an operating potential of 1.21 to 0.98 V and a current efficiency of greater than 80% in a drilling fluid corrosive environment with a density of 1.2-2.5 g/cm.sup.3, a chloride ion content of 1,200-180,000 mg/L, and a temperature of 30-120 C. The wear-resistant belts include a first wear-resistant belt, a second wear-resistant belt and a third wear-resistant belt, each having a surface hardness of greater than 750 HV.sub.0.1.

A battery pack may include a plurality of battery cells and a reversible memory metal-based connector that transitions between a deformed state to an undeformed state in response to a temperature trigger. For example, the reversible memory metal-based connector may be a clamp, a coil, a tubing, and/or the like. The reversible memory metal-based connector in the deformed state may physically connect two or more of the plurality of battery cells such that an electrical current is able to flow between the two or more battery cells. The reversible memory-metal based connector in the undeformed state is physically disconnected from the two or more battery cells to disrupt a flow of current between the two or more battery cells.

The water treatment unit comprises at least one magnet, at least one sacrificial anode, and a filter element. The at least one magnet is configured to attract ferrous particles and retain ferrous particles to remove the ferrous particles from the water flowing through the container. The at least one sacrificial anode is configured to provide anodic protection and scavenge oxygen from the water flowing through the container. The filter element is configured to remove detritus from the water flowing out of the container. The at least one magnet and the at least one sacrificial anode are located in the container. The filter element is located outside of the container downstream of the outlet.
