20230061332 · 2023-03-02 ·

A process for the co-production of low carbon methanol and ammonia, including providing renewable power to an electrolysis unit, thereby producing at least a green oxygen stream and a green hydrogen stream. Providing renewable power to a nitrogen generation unit, thereby producing a green nitrogen stream. Providing a hydrocarbon stream and some amount of steam to an oxygen based reformer, along with at least part of the green oxygen stream, thereby producing a raw syngas stream. Combining the green hydrogen stream with the oxygen-based reformer feed to adjust the composition of the raw syngas stream to be suitable for methanol synthesis. Introducing the raw syngas stream into either a conventional or once-through methanol synthesis reactor, thereby producing at least a low carbon methanol product (after purification) and an unreacted syngas stream.

What is proposed is a process and a plant for parallel production of methanol and ammonia by heterogeneously catalyzed reaction of hydrogen and carbon oxides on the one hand and hydrogen and nitrogen on the other hand. This includes producing a raw synthesis gas stream and dividing it into two portions. A first raw synthesis gas substream is used as input for a methanol synthesis to obtain raw methanol and a methanol synthesis purge stream. A second raw synthesis gas substream is subjected to a CO conversion, a carbon dioxide separation and a liquid nitrogen scrubbing and then sent to an ammonia synthesis. According to the invention at least a portion of the methanol synthesis purge stream is sent to the ammonia synthesis and at least one substream obtained from the second raw synthesis gas substream is passed to the methanol synthesis.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for hydrogen production as well as apparatuses useful in such systems and methods. Hydrogen is produced by steam reforming of a hydrocarbon in a gas heated reformer that is heated using one or more streams comprising combustion products of a fuel in an oxidant, preferably in the presence of a carbon dioxide circulating stream.

Method for syngas separation at hydrogen producing facilities for carbon capture and storage

Methods and systems for gas separation of syngas applying differences in water solubilities of syngas components, the method including producing a product gas comprising hydrogen and carbon dioxide from a hydrocarbon fuel source; separating hydrogen from the product gas to create a hydrogen product stream and a byproduct stream by solubilizing components in water that are more soluble in water than hydrogen; injecting the byproduct stream into a reservoir containing mafic rock; and allowing components of the byproduct stream to react in situ with components of the mafic rock to precipitate and store components of the byproduct stream in the reservoir.

A PROCESS FOR GENERATION OF SNTHESIS GAS BY FLUE GAS RECYCLE

A novel process for synthesis gas generation comprises treating a hydrocarbon feed in a primary reformer (PR), compressing at least part of the flue gas from the primary reformer in a compressor (C1), and feeding the compressed flue gas to a secondary reformer (SR) together with the primary reformer effluent. In the process, enriched air (EA) is added either to the primary reformer, to the secondary reformer or both. The process is especially suited for co-production of ammonia and methanol or for production of either ammonia or methanol. The total CO.sub.2 emission is lowered considerably by using the process of the invention.
