HYBRID PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR RECOVERING WATER
A hybrid process and system for separating water from an inlet brine solution is disclosed. The hybrid process couples at least two different separation processes/systems. The inlet brine solution is fed into a first separation process, which produces a water distillate and a brine concentrate. The brine concentrate from the first separation process is then fed into the second separation process to further recover additional water. The excess heat from the second separation process is supplied to the first separation process.
FORWARD OSMOTIC AND WATER HAMMER METHOD OF MEMBRANE CLEANING
Disclosed herein are apparatuses and methods for semi-permeable membrane cleaning. In particular, a pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) process redirects raw solution and fluid streams in such a way as to cause periodic changes of the process from PRO to reverse osmosis (RO) for lifting and detaching fouling. Further disclosed is applying, at least periodically, a pulsed-flow regime in the fluid stream, thereby causing increased shearing force for enhanced evacuation of the foulant. Additionally, a backward wash may be provided by injection, for a predetermined injection time, of additional solution selected in such way that net driving pressure becomes RO opposite to normal PRO operation, thereby providing a backward flow from a first side of the membrane to a second side of the membrane, so as to lift and evacuate foulant.
RAPID ENZYME ACTIVITY MEASUREMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD
An autonomous and independent biofouling detecting system for detecting biofouling associated with a plant membrane based on a test membrane. The biofouling detecting system includes the test membrane, which shares a feed with the plant membrane; a molecule detecting sensor that detects a presence of a molecule associated with biofouling of the test membrane; and a global controller that controls a flow of the feed through the test membrane and determines when the test membrane needs cleaning.
Apparatus and process for separation of water from dissolved solutes by forward osmosis
Provided herein is forward osmosis-based water purification process, that includes contacting a solution of a soluble draw agent with a dehydrated insoluble draw agent, separating the now hydrated insoluble draw agent from the now concentrated draw solution, and exerting a stimulus on the hydrated insoluble draw agent for extracting water therefrom, thereby regenerating a dehydrated insoluble draw agent, wherein the osmotic concentration (osmolality) of the insoluble draw agent is greater than the osmotic concentration of the diluted draw solution, and the insoluble draw agent is impermeable to the soluble draw agent.
DOSING PUMP FOR DOSING ANTISCALANT INTO A MEMBRANE-BASED WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
A dosing pump (19) doses antiscalant into a membrane-based water treatment system (1). The dosing pump (19) includes a displacement body for pumping antiscalant into the membrane-based water treatment system (1) in doses. A motor drives the displacement body. A control module controls the motor. The control module is configured to vary the dosage of antiscalant pumped into the water treatment system (1) based on a temperature corrected system variable (SVTc) being based on a plurality of operating variables of the water treatment system (1).
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR A HASH TABLE AND DATA STORAGE AND ACCESS USING THE SAME
The present teaching relates to method, system, medium, and implementations for storage management. A hash table is constructed, having an index file having one or more slots, each of which includes one or more buckets. Each bucket stores one or more types of records, including a direct record, an indirect record, and a forwarding record. A direct record stores data directly in a bucket of a slot of the index file. When a storage request is received related to some relevant data, the request is handled based on the constructed hash table.
Method for removing a contaminant from wastewater from an industrial plant and a system for performing such method
The present application relates to a method for removing a contaminant from wastewater from industrial fertilizer plant. The method comprises the steps of concentrating the wastewater, of electrolyzing the wastewater and of recirculating the electrolyzed wastewater to the fertilizer plant. The present application further relates to a system arranged to perform the method according to the present application.
Separation systems, elements, and methods for separation utilizing stacked membranes and spacers
An example separation system includes a stack of membrane plate assemblies. An example membrane plate assembly may include membranes bonded to opposite sides of a spacer plate. The spacer plate may include a first opening in fluid communication with a region between the membranes, and a second opening in fluid communication with a region between membrane plate assemblies. Adjacent membrane plate assemblies in the stack may have alternating orientations such that bonding areas for adjacent membranes in the stack may be staggered. Accordingly, two isolated flows may be provided which may be orthogonal from one another.
Power generation process
A process for generating power from a warm saline steam (1) obtained from geothermal sources. The process involves extracting a warm saline stream (1) from an underground geothermal formation (2), reducing the temperature of the saline stream (1) by passing the stream through a thermal power unit (5) in which thermal energy present in the stream is extracted. The process also involves converting latent osmotic energy present in the stream into electricity by passing the stream through an osmotic power unit (7) comprising a semi-permeable membrane (8). The output stream (13) derived from passage through the osmotic power unit is injected into a second, different underground formation.
MEMBRANES FOR FORWARD OSMOSIS AND MEMBRANE DISTILLATION AND PROCESS OF TREATING FRACKING WASTEWATER
Membranes for membrane distillation (MD) and forward osmosis (FO) are provided with methods of manufacture and use thereof. The MD membrane comprises a microporous mat of electrospun nanofibers made of a nanocomposite comprising reduced graphene oxide dispersed in a hydrophobic polymer with their surface grafted with a silane coupling agent or with hydrophobic nanoparticles. The FO membrane comprises a microporous support layer and a rejection layer formed on one side of the support layer, wherein the support layer is a microporous mat of electrospun nanofibers made of a nanocomposite of hydrophilic nanoparticles dispersed in a hydrophilic polymer, and the rejection layer is made of nanocomposite of hydrophilic nanoparticles dispersed in a crosslinked meta-aramid of formula (I). There is also provided a process for treating a high-salinity and/or high-strength feed, such as fracking wastewater, comprising microfiltration or ultrafiltration, followed by forward osmosis, and then membrane distillation.
