SELECTIVE REMOVAL OF CHARGED SPECIES
The present invention relates to a process for selectively removing a first charged species from a plurality of charged species in solution, which process comprises: treating a solution with a functionalised polymer and a surfactant, wherein the solution comprises a plurality of charged species dissolved in a solvent, wherein the plurality of charged species comprises the first charged species and at least one further charged species which is different from the first charged species, and wherein the functionalised polymer comprises groups that bind preferentially to the first charged species.
DEGRADATIVE METHOD
The present invention relates to a method of degrading biofilm by contacting it with an aqueous mixture comprising a peroxide compound and a manganese complex, wherein the aqueous mixture comprises a macrocylic ligand. The invention also relates to a method of degrading a biofilm by contacting it with an aqueous mixture comprising a peroxide compound and a macrocyclic ligand.
METHOD FOR PURIFYING FRESH, COMBINED AND SALINE WASTEWATER FROM RADIOACTIVE HEAVY METALS
The invention relates to environment management, particularly to methods for purifying a wastewater in order to eliminate a toxic impact of heavy and radioactive metals. A method for purifying fresh, combined and saline wastewater from radioactive and heavy metals using an electrolysis and a special active substance (sorbent), wherein the wastewater is fed to an electrolyzer with a chamber that is separated by a special membrane that is permeable for ions of metals separately of water, then changes of the pH occur in order to form complex compounds, which comprise ions of radioactive and heavy metals. Afterwards, the adsorption of the obtained 0 compounds by the special active substance (sorbent) and filtering-off on a precoat filter that retains ions of heavy and radioactive metals are performed. The obtained filtrate is cemented without drying and evaporation in order to perform final deposition of the radioactive 0 compounds.
Methods of Removing Inorganic Fluoride from Compositions Containing Fluorinated Organic Compounds
Methods of treating a water sample containing both free fluoride and fluorinated organic compounds are described. The methods are effective at removing high amounts of the free fluoride while retaining high amounts of the fluorinated organic compounds. The methods include combining the water sample with a hexaalkyldisiloxane, a strong acid and a compatibilizing solvent; reacting the free fluoride with the disiloxane; and removing the fluorinated reaction product.
VOLATILE FATTY ACID CONTROL
A method of controlling a volatile fatty acid in an aqueous industrial system is provided in the present disclosure. The method includes determining a level of dissolved oxygen in process water in the aqueous industrial system and adding an effective amount of a control agent to the process water if the determined level of dissolved oxygen is above a predetermined level. The compositions and methods can lower the amount of VFA present in the aqueous industrial system.
Crown ether functionalized substrates
A method for making crown ether functionalized substrates, which includes modifying crown ether-based molecules by reacting with carboxylic acid functionalize chains. The crown ether-based molecules are then attached to substrates, thereby forming crown ether functionalized substrates.
WATER TREATMENT USING CHITOSAN-GRAFT-ITACONIC ACID-ALUMINUM OXIDE NANOCOMPOSITES
A method of removing a metal ion from water is disclosed. The method includes treating the water with a nanocomposite to absorb the metal ion with the nanocomposite, forming a polymer-metal ion composite and removing the polymer-metal ion composite from the water. The nanocomposite includes aluminum oxide dispersed in a matrix of an uncrosslinked graft copolymer that includes a chitosan backbone and side chains of poly(itaconic acid) grafted to the chitosan backbone. The chitosan backbone has a plurality of amino groups that are acetylated by itaconic acid.
ACID BASED CORROSION INHIBITOR COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS
Compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces are disclosed herein. Also disclosed are methods of manufacturing the corrosion inhibitors compositions. The corrosion inhibitor compositions include the reaction product of a dicarbonyl compound with thioglycolic acid. The compositions may include other components, such as a solvent, a hydrogen sulfide scavenger, or a biocide.
Compositions and methods for scavenging H.SUB.2.S
A method of treating a fluid, which method includes the steps of: (a) contacting a fluid containing at least one sulfide with a sulfide-reducing amount of a composition comprising an lignocellulosic liquor comprising one or more lignin-derived compounds and one or more hemicellulose sugar monomers and/or oligomers and (b) allowing the lignocellulosic liquor to react with at least a portion of the sulfide in the fluid.
Pyrrole-based polymers for metal extraction, analysis, and removal
Materials and methods for extracting metals from solutions, involving a polymer of Formula A are described: ##STR00001##
where each X is independently either S or O, and n is an integer greater than 1.
