The purpose of the present invention is to provide an ultraviolet-absorbent glass that is suitable as a dark gray glass, that has a very low ultraviolet transmittance (TUV), and that has excellent color rendering properties for green. The present invention relates to an ultraviolet-absorbent glass in which: the ultraviolet transmittance (TUV) as defined in ISO 9050:2003 is 2% or less for a thickness of 2.8 mm; the visible light transmittance (TVA) based on a standard A light source is 10% to 30% inclusive for a thickness of 2.8 mm; the energy transmittance (TE) as defined in JIS R 3106:1998 is 30% or less for a thickness of 2.8 mm; a ratio R14/R9 for color rendering indices as defined in ISO 9050:1990 and JIS Z 8726:1990 is 1.8 or greater; and a ratio R14/R1 is 1.05 or greater.

The present invention provides a glass sheet having a good property of blocking transmission of ultraviolet light, having a low to moderate visible transmittance, being relatively thin, being capable of substantially blocking transmission of solar ultraviolet light, and also having a good solar shielding property. The glass sheet of the present invention has a thickness of 1 to 5 mm, a Tuv 380 of 1.5% or less, a Tuv 400 of 2.5% or less, a visible transmittance (YA) of 5 to 40%, and a solar transmittance (TG) of 5 to 45%, and is formed from a glass composition, wherein the glass composition includes: 1.0 to 5.0 wt % T-Fe.sub.2O.sub.3; 1.0 to 5.0 wt % TiO.sub.2; and 50 to 600 wt. ppm CoO as coloring components in addition to predetermined base composition, a FeO ratio is 5 to 40%, and the sum of T-Fe.sub.2O.sub.3 multiplied by 2 and TiO.sub.2 is 7.0% or more.

An ultraviolet light absorbing glass according to the present invention includes 1.6% or more of t-Fe.sub.2O.sub.3, more than 1.0% of TiO.sub.2, and 0.016% or more of CoO. The ultraviolet light absorbing glass has t-Fe.sub.2O.sub.3/TiO.sub.2 of 1.2 or more, and an ultraviolet light transmittance (TUV400) at a sheet thickness of 3.1 mm of 2.0% or less, a ratio of visible light transmittance (TVA)/TUV400 of 10 or more, and a dominant wavelength (D) of 555 nm or less.

A method and/or system is provided for detecting and/or identifying inclusions (e.g., nickel sulfide based inclusions/defects) in glass such as soda-lime-silica based float glass. In certain example instances, during and/or after the glass-making process, following the stage in the float process where the glass sheet is formed and floated on a molten material (e.g., tin bath) and cooled or allowed to cool such as via an annealing lehr, energy such as infrared (IR) energy is directed at the resulting glass and reflectance at various wavelengths is analyzed to detect inclusions.

HOMOGENOUS SILICA-TITANIA GLASS

A glass including silica and titania is disclosed. An average hydroxyl concentration of a plurality segments of the glass is in a range from about 20 ppm to about 450 ppm, an average titania concentration of the plurality of segments is in a range from about 6 wt. % to about 12 wt. %, and each segment of the plurality of segments has a length of about 12.7 mm, a width of about 12.7 mm, and a height of about 7.62 mm. The hydroxyl concentration of each segment is measured using a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in transmission, the refractive index is measured using an optical interferometer with a 633 nm operating wavelength and a resolution of 270 microns270 microns pixel size, and the average titania concentration is determined based upon the measured refractive index.

A first of the clad glass-ceramic layers is laminated to a first surface of core glass layer and a second of the clad glass-ceramic layers is laminated to a second surface of the core glass layer. Further, a total thickness of the plurality of clad glass-ceramic layers is from about 0.05 mm to about 0.5 mm. In addition, each of the glass-ceramic layers includes: an alumino-boro-silicate glass, 0 mol %MoO.sub.315 mol %, and 0 mol %WO.sub.315 mol %, the WO.sub.3 (mol %) plus the MoO.sub.3 (mol %) is from 0.7 mol % to 19 mol %.
