This disclosure relates to a method for strengthening an edge of a glass plate, a glass, and a display apparatus, wherein the article comprises a side surface located at the edge, and the method for strengthening an edge of an article comprises the steps of: applying an etching paste at least to the side surface of the article to perform etching so as to strengthen the edge of the article; and removing the etching paste.

COATED ARTICLE INCLUDING NOBLE METAL AND POLYMERIC HYDROGENATED DIAMOND LIKE CARBON COMPOSITE MATERIAL HAVING ANTIBACTERIAL AND PHOTOCATALYTIC PROPERTIES, AND/OR METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
20190127271 · 2019-05-02 ·

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to coated articles including noble metal (e.g., Ag) and polymeric hydrogenated diamond like carbon (DLC) (e.g., a-C:H, a-C:H:O) composite material having antibacterial and photocatalytic properties, and/or methods of making the same. A glass substrate supports a buffer layer, a matrix comprising the noble metal and DLC, a proton-conducting layer that may comprising zirconium oxide in certain example embodiments, and a layer comprising titanium oxide. The layer comprising titanium oxide may be photocatalytic and optionally may further include carbon and/or nitrogen. The proton-conducting layer may facilitate the creation of electron-hole pairs and, in turn, promote the antibacterial properties of the coated article. The morphology of the layer comprising titanium oxide and/or channels formed therein may enable Ag ions produced from matrix to migrate therethrough.

Method of coating both sides of a substrate using a sacrificial coating

A method of depositing coating onto both sides of a substrate is provided, which includes steps of upwardly sputtering one or more lower targets to deposit a sacrificial coating onto a second surface and downwardly sputtering one or more upper targets to deposit a first functional coating onto a first surface, washing the substrate with one or more washers to remove the sacrificial coating from the second surface while leaving intact the first functional coating on the first surface, and downwardly sputtering the one or more upper targets to deposit a second functional coating onto the second surface.

Embodiments provide systems, methods, and masking workstations for masking a planar substrate with a shield. The shield is configured to facilitate the removal of a waste portion of masking material from a portion of a planar substrate. In some cases the shield is placed adjacent to a substrate and a masking material is applied to the substrate and at least a portion of the shield. A waste portion is separated from the masking material and the shield removes the waste portion. Embodiments can be useful for masking only a portion of a planar substrate, including glass panes and glass units, for example.
