Systems and methods for forming a composite structure
The present disclosure provides systems and methods for forming a composite structure comprising rotating a base layer of an apparatus for forming the composite structure about an axis of rotation, transferring carbon short fibers from a first vibratory feed ramp onto the base layer in order to form a plurality of fibrous layers in the composite structure, and vibrating the first vibratory feed ramp during the transferring the carbon short fibers. The base layer may comprise an annular shape.

Ceramic matrix composite article and method of making the same
A method includes forming a ceramic matrix composite component by infiltrating an array of ceramic-based fibers with a ceramic-based matrix; forming a plurality of cooling holes in the ceramic matrix composite component; applying a slurry of particles in a carrier fluid to the ceramic matrix composite component such that the slurry passes through the cooling holes and wicks into the ceramic matrix composite material; and processing the ceramic matrix composite component to remove the carrier fluid, thereby leaving a filler at a wall surface of the plurality of cooling holes. A component is also disclosed.
Method for the production of a part made from a composite material, by means of the injection of powder into a fibrous reinforcement with drainage through a composite filtration layer
A process for manufacturing a composite material part includes formation of a fibrous texture from refractory ceramic fibres, placement of the fibrous texture in a mould with interposition of a filtration layer between the fibrous texture and a discharge port, the filtration layer including a partially densified fibrous structure, pressure injection of a slurry containing a powder of refractory ceramic particles into the fibrous texture, drainage by the filtration layer of the slurry solvent having passed through the fibrous texture and retention of the powder of refractory ceramic particles within the texture by the filtration layer to obtain a fibrous preform including the fibrous texture filled with refractory ceramic particles and the filtration layer, heat treatment of the refractory ceramic particles present in the fibrous texture of the preform to form a composite material part including the fibrous texture densified by a refractory ceramic matrix and the filtration layer.
Fabrication of multilayer ceramic structures by continuous filaments of different composition
A method for constructing multiple ceramic layers by winding continuous ceramic filaments of different compositions to prepare multilayer RF-transparent structures is provided. In the method, different continuous ceramic filaments are braided to construct layers with specific dielectric constants and braiding count/thickness. Layers with same or different dielectric characteristics forms a sandwich design to fulfill the desired mechanical, thermal and electrical requirements.
Slurry infiltration heat treatment method
A method of producing a melt infiltrated ceramic matrix composite (CMC) article that includes the steps of: forming a ceramic fiber preform; optionally, rigidizing the ceramic fiber preform with a fiber interphase coating via a Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI) process, infiltrating a ceramic slurry into the porous body or preform, conducting one or more secondary operations, and finally, melt infiltrating the preform with molten silicon or a silicon alloy to form the CMC article. The infiltration of a ceramic slurry into a ceramic fiber preform to form a green body is performed along with the use of convection and/or conduction as heat transfer mechanisms, such that the ceramic slurry does not require the incorporation of a pre-gelation material in order for the slurry to remain within the green body during subsequent processing steps.

METHOD FOR MAKING CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE ARTICLES
A method of forming a composite article includes impregnating an inorganic fiber preform with a slurry composition. The slurry composition includes a particulate, a solvent, and a pre-gellant material. Gelling of the pre-gellant material in the slurry composition is initiated to immobilize the particulate and yield a gelled article, and substantially all solvent is removed from the gelled article to form a green composite article. The green composite article is then infiltrated with a molten infiltrant to form the composite article.
