Described herein are compositions useful for controlling fluid flow, for example in a target zone of a subterranean environment, and methods of forming and using the same. The composition generally comprises a quantity of fibers and a quantity of swellable particles, which may be dispersed in a carrier fluid. The composition may be synthesized in the form of a bulk gel or may be gelatinated during use. The fibers in the compositions provide improved performance as compared to prior PPG and RPPG particle-containing compositions. Specifically, the compositions reinforce the re-cross-linked/re-associated hydrogel plug in underground features and support proper rehydration of RPPG particles with water or brine to better to provide structural support for the particles within the gel and to more completely fill underground void space conduits.

The pH sensitive water-absorbent resin includes distilled water, a monomer, a mixed auxiliary agent, a crosslinking agent and an initiator, the amount of the monomer is 30% to 100% of the mass of the distilled water, the amount of the mixed auxiliary agent is 16% to 67% of the mass of the monomer, the amount of the crosslinking agent is 0.2% to 1% of the mass of the monomer, and the amount of the initiator is 0.4 to 1% of the mass of the monomer.

Coated polymer particles comprising a water-swellable polymer core and a sol-gel coating

The present invention relates to coated polymer particles comprising a water-swellable polymer core and an essentially continuous coating encapsulating the core. The coating comprises an oxide, hydroxide or oxide hydrate of silicon, aluminum, zirconium, tin or titanium. The polymer particles do not show instantaneous swelling, when contacted with water or a water-containing liquid, but show delayed water absorption after an appropriate period of time. The coated polymer particles may be used in oil fields, in mining, for construction chemical compositions or as carrier for active substances. The coated polymer particles are prepared by a suspension coating process or a fluidized bed coating process.
