Shaped fiber composites
A composite article is disclosed that has non-circular fibers embedded in a polymer matrix. The composite article has improved damage tolerance, toughness, bending, and impact resistance compared to composites having traditional round fibers.
SIZING COMPOSITION FOR MINERAL FIBERS AND RESULTING PRODUCTS
The present invention relates to a sizing composition for mineral fibers, especially glass fibers or rock fibers, containing a liquid phenolic resin having a free formaldehyde content, expressed with respect to the total weight of liquid, of 0.1% or less and an extender.
Preferably, the liquid phenolic resin is mainly composed of phenol-formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde-amine condensates and has a water dilutability, at 20° C., at least equal to 1000%.
Another subject of the present invention is the insulating products based on mineral fibers treated by said sizing composition.
Polymer composite wireline cables comprising optical fiber sensors
A polymer composite wireline cable comprising: a polymeric matrix material; at least one reinforced fiber embedded in the polymeric matrix material; and at least one optical fiber disposed in the polymeric matrix material, the at least one optical fiber having at least one pair of Bragg grating sensors, wherein one of the pair of Bragg grating sensors is configured to experience loading strain and the other of the pair of Bragg grating sensors is configured not to experience loading strain.
Self-assembled Propylene-based Compositions and Methods of Production Thereof
Disclosed are self-assembled propylene-based bi-layer compositions having a skin layer comprising a propylene-based elastomer-toughened composition and a core layer comprising a propylene-based fiber-reinforced composition, wherein the propylene-based elastomer-toughened composition and propylene-based fiber-reinforced composition self-assemble upon mixing into the skin layer and the core layer. Processes for producing these self-assembled propylene-based compositions are also disclosed.
METHOD AND RESIN IMPREGNATING DEVICE FOR PRODUCING A REINFORCING BAR
A resin impregnating device (1) is used in a method for producing a reinforcing bar and has a chamber for holding a liquid thermoplastic resin. A plurality of guide plates (4A-4C) is arranged in the chamber along a traveling direction of a plurality of strands of reinforcing fiber material (Fb). Through holes (41) in two of the guide plates (4A, 4C) guide or spread the strands of the reinforcing fiber material Fb away from each other, and a single through hole (42) in an intermediate one of the guide plates (4B) guides or converges all the strands of the reinforcing fiber material (Fb) towards each other.
FLOATING ROOF FOR TANKS, FIRE RETARDANT COATING THEREOF, AND METHOD FOR THEIR MANUFACTURE
The present invention relates to floating roofs for tanks that are used for storage of flammable liquids, such as petroleum or refinery products such as diesel, kerosene, gasoline, etc. In one aspect, the present invention concerns a method for forming a fire retardant coating of a floating roof, and a floating roof obtainable thereby. In another aspect, the present invention relates to improvements in structure of a floating roof. The floating roof tank may be a seamless composite floating roof tank for refineries.
ARTICLE REINFORCED BY MULTI-DIMENSIONAL FIBERS AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE ARTICLE
In order to solve problems of strength and volume of part, the invention provides an article reinforced by multi-dimensional fibers and a method for manufacturing the article. The article includes a core portion and a shell layer portion. The core portion is made of thermoplastic resin and the fibers in which a majority of and a minority of the fibers are respectively arranged in a major and a minor directions. The method includes: preparing a core portion made of thermoplastic resin and the fibers in which a majority of and a minority of the fibers are respectively arranged in a major and a minor directions, loading the core portion into a mold, and forming a shell layer portion in the mold to enclose the core portion. The article manufactured by the method of this invention can reduce the weight and increase the strength of the parts.
SURFACE TREATED BIOCOMPOSITE MATERIAL, MEDICAL IMPLANTS COMPRISING SAME AND METHODS OF TREATMENT THEREOF
Reinforced biocomposite materials having a unique treated surface, in which the surface may comprise a plurality of layers. According to at least some embodiments, medical implants are provided that incorporate novel structures, alignments, orientations and forms comprised of such reinforced bioabsorbable materials, as well as methods of treatment thereof.
SYSTEM FOR PRODUCING A FULLY IMPREGNATED THERMOPLASTIC PREPREG
A thermoplastic prepreg includes a mat, web, or fabric of fibers and hollow glass microspheres that are positioned atop the mat, web, or fabric of fibers or dispersed therein. The thermoplastic prepreg also includes a thermoplastic polymer that is fully impregnated through the mat, web, or fabric of fibers and the hollow glass microspheres so that the thermoplastic prepreg has a void content of less than 3% by volume of the thermoplastic prepreg. The thermoplastic material is polymerized monomers and oligomers in which greater than 90% by weight of the monomers or oligomers react to form the thermoplastic material.
Method and apparatus of making pipes and panels using a treated fiber thread to weave, braid or spin products
Materials and pipes made from woven, knit, spun or braided fiber threads that provide high tensile strength and caustic resistance. A fibrous material, made from a substance such as fiberglass or basalt, is bound to an epoxy resin, which is cured to create a durable material that can be used in several applications, including applications involving high heat and caustic materials.
