SURFACE MODIFYING COMPOSITION, MODIFIED PRODUCT, AND METHOD OF PRODUCING MODIFIED PRODUCT
A surface modifying composition for modifying a surface of a formed product made of high-density polyethylene or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, the composition comprising: a copolymer having a unit of a first monomer having an aliphatic group having 10 or more carbon atoms and a unit of a second monomer having any of an amino group, an epoxy group, and an ether group, and a solvent having a boiling point of 100 C. or more and being at least one selected from the group consisting of a halogen-based solvent, an alkane solvent, a cycloalkane solvent, a dicycloalkane solvent, an aromatic solvent, and a nitro-based solvent.
INTERPENETRATING POLYMER NETWORK CONTAINING CROSS-LINKED POLY(N-VINYLAMINE)
Disclosed is an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) that includes two polymers which are at least partially interlaced on a molecular scale, wherein the first polymer is obtainable by hydrolyzing a cross-linked poly(N-vinylformamide), and the second polymer is a copolymer of monomers A and B. The monomer A is preferably cationic, such as dimethylaminoethylacrylate methyl chloride, and the monomer B may be for example acrylamide. The IPN material may be used in paper making processes as drainage agent, retention agent, sizing agent or flocculant agent.
Coating powdered polymer with a water-soluble dye as an indicator for polymer hydration state
A method for determining hydration of a polymer includes mixing a water-soluble, powdered dye with a powdered polymer and introducing the mixed water-soluble, powdered dye and powdered polymer into a water-based fluid. Full hydration of the powdered polymer is determined when the mixed water-soluble, powdered dye, powdered polymer and water-based fluid comprises substantially no internal optical contrast.
PHOTONIC CRYSTAL STRUCTURE AND ANTI-FORGERY COLOR CONVERSION FILM COMPRISING SAME
An anti-forgery color conversion film includes a photonic crystal structure whose color is converted by an external stimulus such as a breath. The photonic crystal structure includes a first refractive index layer including a first polymer exhibiting a first refractive index; and a second refractive index layer which is alternately laminated with the first refractive index layer and includes a second polymer exhibiting a second refractive index. A consumer who purchases an article including the color conversion film may easily distinguish the authenticity of the article.
SELF-HEALING AND STRETCHABLE POLYMERIC COMPOSITIONS
Disclosed herein a self-healing, flexible, conductive compositions. The conductive compositions include conductive polymers and acidic polyacrylamides. The compositions are useful in a wide range of applications, including wearable electronics and sensors. The compositions may be prepared using environmentally friendly procedures.
Latex composition for dip molding and molded article manufactured therefrom
Disclosed is a latex composition for dip-molding and a dip-molded article produced therefrom. More specifically, by using a water-soluble polymer such as poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) or a copolymer thereof in combination with a carbonic acid-modified nitrile-based copolymer latex, the stability of the latex is improved through crosslinking by hydrogen bonding, it is possible to manufacture a molded article which has a slow syneresis and is excellent in workability and does not tear even at a thin thickness due to high tensile strength.
POLYMER COMPOSITIONS
The invention relates to novel a high-volume swelling hydrogel which comprises a plurality of pores which are defined by an interpenetrating network, and/or a semi-interpenetrating network and/or simple cross-linked arrangement of a plurality of one or more species of hydrophilic polymers, optionally together with one or more biocompatible polymers and optionally together with one or more plasticising agents, characterised in that at least some of the pores are at least partially collapsed and/or flattened, and further characterised in that the interpenetrating network and/or semi-interpenetrating network and/or cross-linked arrangement which defines the collapsed and/or flattened pores is substantially unbroken. The invention also relates to a process for preparing such hydrogels, and to their use as an appetite suppressant.
SILICONE HYDROGEL LENS WITH A CROSSLINKED HYDROPHILIC COATING
The invention is related to a cost-effective method for making a silicone hydrogel contact lens having a crosslinked hydrophilic coating thereon. A method of the invention involves heating a silicone hydrogel contact lens in an aqueous solution in the presence of a water-soluble, highly branched, thermally-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material having positively-charged azetidinium groups, to and at a temperature from about 40 C. to about 140 C. for a period of time sufficient to covalently attach the thermally-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material onto the surface of the silicone hydrogel contact lens through covalent linkages each formed between one azetidinium group and one of the reactive functional groups on and/or near the surface of the silicone hydrogel contact lens, thereby forming a crosslinked hydrophilic coating on the silicone hydrogel contact lens. Such method can be advantageously implemented directly in a sealed lens package during autoclave.
Water Soluble Polymer Dispersions
Polymer compositions comprising: one or more polyacrylamide powders, one or more dispersants, one or more alkali metal or ammonium salts, fumed silica and water. The polymer composition offer improved stability over comparable polymer composition without fumed silica and alkali metal or ammonium salts. Also disclosed are methods of preparing the polymer compositions, treatment fluids comprising the polymer compositions, and methods of treating a portion of a subterranean formation with the treatment fluids.
MONOLAYER POLYMERIC COATINGS FOR MODIFYING METAL OXIDE SURFACES
The invention is directed to methods of modifying metal oxide or hydroxylated polymer surfaces using compositions of water soluble polymers that adsorb onto such surfaces and that contain functional groups which directly modify such surfaces without further processing. In some embodiments, compositions used in such methods include water-soluble oxide-adsorbing polymers having water solubility in an indicated temperature range, an indicated concentration in the aqueous solution, and a molecular weight range, wherein each of the water-soluble oxide-adsorbing polymers comprises a linear copolymer comprising a first monomer having at least one hydrophilic moiety and a second monomer having at least one lipophilic moiety and wherein a first monomer: second monomer molecular ratio is at least 3:1.
