COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF ELASTOMERIC REINFORCEMENT FIBERS IN ASPHALT CEMENT CONCRETE
The present invention relates to elastomeric polymer fiber reinforced asphalt cement concrete for use in a variety of applications. In particular, the reinforcement fibers are effective to reduce or preclude voids and/or cracks formed in the asphalt upon placement and to render a self-healing property to the placed asphalt.
DUAL EMULSION FOR ASPHALT REJUVENATION
Formulations and methods of making and using two emulsions, one emulsion having a rejuvenating agent and another emulsion having an asphalt phase. The two emulsions may be serially applied or blended together to form a dual emulsion for various deteriorated pavement surface treatments. The two emulsions may be used with a recycled asphalt product, either being mixed with the recycled asphalt product or serially applied to the recycled asphalt product. The two emulsions when blended together may form a dispersion having different phases with different setting times. The surfactant in the rejuvenating emulsion may be faster setting for a preferred initial break and better interaction with the pavement product, while the surfactant in the asphalt emulsion may break more slowly and provide more time to combine with the rejuvenated binder and fully coat the deteriorated asphalt product, and any virgin aggregate added to the mix.

In another aspect, the rejuvenating composition comprises an oil having a Hildebrand solubility ranging from about 6 to about 12 and a flash point ranging from about 100 C. to about 400 C. In yet another aspect, the rejuvenating composition comprises a modified oil having a Hildebrand solubility ranging from about 6 to about 12 and a flash point ranging from about 100 C. to about 400 C.
Polymerized oils and methods of manufacturing the same
Described herein is a polymerized biorenewable, previously modified, or functionalized oil, comprising a polymeric distribution having about 2 to about 80 wt % oligomer content, a polydispersity index ranging from about 1.30 to about 2.20, and sulfur content ranging from 0.001 wt % to about 8 wt %. Methods of manufacturing the polymerized oil as well as its incorporation into asphalt paving, roofing, and coating applications are also described.
Polymerized oils and methods of manufacturing the same
Described herein is a polymerized biorenewable, petroleum based, previously modified, or functionalized oil, comprising a polymeric distribution having about 2 to about 80 wt % oligomer content, a polydispersity index ranging from about 1.0 to about 5.0, and sulfur content ranging from 0.001 wt % to about 8 wt %. Methods of manufacturing the polymerized oil as well as its incorporation into asphalt paving, roofing, and coating applications are also described.
Emulsions with polymerized oils and methods of manufacturing the same
Described herein is an emulsion for use in asphalt rejuvenation applications, comprising an oil phase comprising (1) a polymerized oil comprising a polymeric distribution having about 2 to about 80 wt % oligomer content, a polydispersity index ranging from about 1.0 to about 5.0, and sulfur content less than about 8 wt %; and (2) an aqueous phase, comprising a surfactant. The emulsion may be incorporated into asphalt paving, roofing, and coating applications and especially aged or recycled asphalt thereby obtaining rejuvenated asphalt.
