There is disclosed a functional lamellar particle including an unconverted portion of the lamellar particle, wherein the unconverted portion includes a first metal, a converted portion of the lamellar particle disposed external to a surface of the unconverted portion, wherein the converted portion includes a chemical compound of the first metal; and a functional coating disposed external to a surface of the converted portion.

PVD METAL EFFECT PIGMENT POWDER

The invention relates to powder made of coated PVD metal effect pigment, highly concentrated suspensions of coated PVD metal effect pigment as well as the use thereof in powder lacquers and masterbatches. The powder according to the invention made of coated PVD metal effect pigments is characterized by a very good redispersibility and is outstandingly suitable in particular for the preparation of highly concentrated suspensions. Furthermore, it is very free flowing, substantially agglomerate-free and results in coatings with excellent metallic gloss.

Pearlescent pigments coated with mixed inorganic/organic layers and method for the production thereof

The invention relates to platelet-shaped pearlescent pigments that are coated with at least one mixed inorganic/organic layer for improving their application properties, and of these, particularly their mechanical properties, and to methods for the production thereof and to the use thereof. The said mixed inorganic/organic layer comprises at least one at least partially crosslinked inorganic metal-oxide component and an organic component. The organic component is at least one organic oligomer and/or polymer, which is covalently bonded, at least in part, to the inorganic network via network formers, wherein the coating comprises at least one mixed inorganic/organic layer, which mixed mixed layer comprises, at least in part, an inorganic network having one or more inorganic oxide component(s) and at least one organic component, the organic component being, at least in part, an organic oligomer and/or polymer covalently bonded, at least in part, to the inorganic network via one or more organic network formers. The invention also relates to a method for the production of such pearlescent pigments.

Copper-containing metal pigments with a metal oxide layer and a plastic layer, method for the production thereof, coating agent and coated object

The invention relates to copper-containing metal pigments, wherein the copper-containing metal pigments have an elemental copper content of at least 50 wt.-%, relative to the total weight of the uncoated copper-containing metal pigment, wherein the copper-containing metal pigments have at least one enveloping metal oxide layer and at least one enveloping chemically non-reactive plastic layer, wherein the sum of the amounts of the at least one chemically non-reactive plastic layer and of the at least one metal oxide layer lies in a range of from 10 to 50 wt.-%, relative to the weight of the uncoated metal pigment, and the weight ratio of the at least one metal oxide layer to the at least one chemically non-reactive plastic layer lies in a range of from 1:2 to 1:20. The invention furthermore relates to a method for producing these pigments and the use thereof.

EFFECT PIGMENTS

Effect pigments based on Al.sub.2O.sub.3 flakes with high weather resistance and less photoactivity and to their use thereof in paints, industrial coatings, automotive coatings, printing inks, cosmetic formulations. The effect pigments have a ratio of the amount by weight of Al.sub.2O.sub.3 of the Al.sub.2O.sub.3 flake and the amount by weight of the metal oxide(s) of the coating layer(s) in the range of from 27:73 to 83:17 based on the total weight of the effect pigment.

Highly structured composite material and process for the manufacture of protective coatings for corroding substrates

A highly structured composite material, which can be applied and cured as a protective layer on corroding metal substrates, particularly on steel is provided. Due to its highly structured composition it is a particularly effective barrier to protect metals against attack by corrosive substances such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and sea water, if necessary under hydrothermal conditions. At the same time it is also abrasion stable, for example against a grinding effect by sand, as well as resistant to the impact of mechanical load e.g. by tools. This is achieved by a coating composition comprising a binder comprising at least one cross-linkable resin, wherein the resin comprises at least one of polar group; at least one type of hydrophilic flakes with an aspect ratio of more than 10, wherein the surface of the flakes at least partially comprises a metal oxide; and an organic solvent.
