An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a filler comprising a silica core, a first layer in communication with the core, and a second layer in communication with the first layer. The presence of the second layer can decrease the coefficient of thermal expansion, decrease the composite modulus, and increase the glass transition temperature of the modulus as compared to fillers without a second layer.

Method of glass fabric production including resin adhesion for printed circuit board formation

Embodiments generally relate to devices and methods for production of fibers and threads for use in electronic device manufacturing. Described here, fibers can be produced and manipulated using a dual-surfaced sizing material. The dual-surfaced sizing material has a surface which binds a fiber and a surface which binds a resin. Thus, the dual-surfaced sizing material can be left attached to the fibers without adversely affecting the resin binding in later production steps.

CARBON-COATED PARTICLES

Core particles produced in situ or introduced as preformed core particles are coated with a layer of carbon. Non-carbon as well as some carbon-based core materials can be utilized. The resulting carbon coated particles can find applications in rubber products, for instance as reinforcement for tire components.

POROUS SILICA PARTICLE, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, AND CLEANSING COSMETIC CONTAINING THE SAME

A porous silica particle with the small specific surface area and large pore volume, which is contained as the scrubbing agent in the cleansing cosmetics is provided. The porous silica particle has high collapsibility, and therefore the damage of the skin can be prevented. A porous silica particle according to the present invention has: an average circularity of 0.1 to 0.5; a pore volume of 0.1≦Pv<1.0 ml/g; a specific surface area of 5 to 60 m.sup.2/cm.sup.3; a median size of 100 to 1000 μm; a ratio of a maximum particle diameter to the median size, of 3.0 or less; and a median size of 5 to 40 μm and a maximum particle diameter of 15 to 200 μm, after rubbing for 30 seconds with a load of 1.0 to 1.4 KPa.

Silicon nanoparticles and methods for preparation of silicon nanoparticles are provided. Embodiments include a method for grinding silicon. Methods include providing silicon material, providing a grinding liquid including a polar solvent, and grinding the silicon material in the presence of the grinding liquid to yield silicon nanoparticles. Grinding the silicon in the presence of the grinding liquid can chemically functionalize the silicon material as the nanoparticles are formed to provide stable chemically functionalized nanoparticles.

Silicone oil-treated fumed silica, manufacturing method and application thereof

A silicone oil-treated fumed silica and a method of producing the silicone oil-treated fumed silica are provided. The silicone oil-treated fumed silica, which has the following physical properties: A) the silicone oil-treated fumed silica has a degree of hydrophobicity of 68 vol % or more; B) the silicone oil-treated fumed silica has a silicone oil fixation rate of from 60 mass % to 95 mass %; and C) a composition obtained by adding 6 parts by mass of the silicone oil-treated fumed silica to 100 parts by mass of an amine composition containing trimethylolpropane polyoxypropylene triamine and 1,3-bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane at a mass ratio of 95:5 has a viscosity of 4,000 mPa.Math.s or more after the composition is left to stand at 25° C. for 1 hour.

Ceramic encapsulation by use of one or more specialized silanes to template oil in an oil in water emulsion

This invention relates to a method for emulsion templating hollow silica-based particles. The particles are suitable for containing one or more active ingredients or for containing other smaller particles which may include one or more active ingredients. The emulsion templated particles can be formed from two or more silanes. The emulsion templated particles can also be formed from a silane and a compound that attaches a polymer on the shell of the hollow silica-based particles.
