The first layer contains an adhesive portion having an adhesive composition and thermally expandable first particles contained within the adhesive composition, and second particles provided in the adhesive portion and having different materials from those of the first particles, and each of the second particles is larger than each of the first particles.

Method of preparing elastic pressure-sensitive adhesive tape and elastic pressure-sensitive adhesive tape

Disclosed are a method of preparing an elastic pressure-sensitive adhesive tape and an elastic pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. Main components of the adhesive include a polyacrylate resin with a carbon-carbon double bond and a diluent monomer with a carbon-carbon double bond. A quasi-microcapsule powder component is adopted, wherein the shell material of the quasi-microcapsule powder selects a cellulose-based water soluble polymer, and the core material selects low boiling point alkane, wherein the preparation method combines UV curing, heating, and shell burst, to obtain an elastic adhesive layer, whereby to prepare a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape product. Compared with conventional elastic pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, the preparing method as disclosed has a simple manufacturing process. The pressure-sensitive adhesive tape obtained from the disclosed preparing method overcomes the restrictions of conventional foam strips and provide good cushioning and compression properties without using foam as the carrier.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SEMI-FOAM FLEXIBLE SEALANT WITH DENSITY MODIFIER

An elastomeric mastic sealant composition and method of manufacturing are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the composition may include between about 13 and about 19 weight percent or between about 11 and about 15 volume percent of acrylate-acrylonitrile copolymer. The composition may further comprise one or more of between about 36 and about 41 weight percent or between about 29 and about 34 volume percent of styrenated acrylic polymer; between about 1 and about 2 weight percent or between about 0.9 and about 1.7 volume percent of surfactant; between about 0.6 and about 1.4 weight percent or between about 0.4 and about 1 volume percent of dispersant; and between about 0.4 and about 1 weight percent or between about 29 and about 40 volume percent of pre-expanded compressible microspheres having an organic outer surface and introduced by a closed mixing system into the copolymer. In some implementations, the disclosed composition and method forms a closed-cell, semi-foam, mastic sealant using gas-filled, flexible, organic microspheres to create a product that once cured, is elastic and compressible under pressure without unduly protruding in an outward direction when compressed, thereby allowing the applied sealant to compress in an enclosed, maximum-filled channel unlike typical mastic sealants (while retaining the ability to rebound). This allows the sealant in such implementations to function as a gasket, and to have properties including vibration damping, insulating, and/or condensation resistance.

ADHERABLE ELEMENT WITH PRESSURE-ACTIVATED ADHESIVE SYSTEM

An adherable element is disclosed, comprising a decorative element having a support surface, and a pressure activated adhesive system pre-coated on the support surface of the decorative element for adhering the decorative element to a surface, the adhesive remaining uncured until activated by application of a threshold pressure. The adhesive comprises a matrix comprising a hardener and a plurality of microcapsules filled with an adhesive resin, the microcapsules being configured to rupture on application of the threshold pressure, thereby exposing the resin to the matrix and allowing the resin to react with the hardener to form an adhesive bond between the decorative element and the surface. The matrix may further comprise a rheology additive such that the matrix has a higher viscosity than the hardener at room temperature. Methods of making an adherable element, and decorative articles comprising the adherable element are also disclosed.
