A method and composition for isolating a paraffinic hydrocarbon layer from a sludge comprising a mixture of paraffinic hydrocarbons, water, and solids are provided. The method comprises providing a paraffinic hydrocarbon isolation composition comprising isopropylamine dodecylbenzene sulfonate, a surfactant, and a solvent; contacting the sludge with the paraffinic hydrocarbon isolation composition; and allowing the paraffinic hydrocarbon isolation composition to separate the sludge into a three phase separation comprising a paraffinic hydrocarbon layer, a water layer, and a layer of settled solids.

HIGH NAPTHENIC CONTENT MARINE FUEL COMPOSITIONS

Marine diesel fuel/fuel blending component compositions and fuel oil/fuel blending component compositions are provided that are derived from crude oils having high naphthenes to aromatics volume and/or weight ratios and a low sulfur content. In addition to having a high naphthenes to aromatics ratio, a low sulfur content, and a low but substantial content of aromatics, such fuels and/or fuel blending components can have a reduced or minimized carbon intensity relative to fuels derived from conventional sources. The unexpected ratio of naphthenes to aromatics contributes to the fuels and/or fuel blending components further having additional unexpected properties, including low density, low kinematic viscosity, and/or high energy density.

Hydrocracked bottoms fractions are treated to separate HPNA compounds and/or HPNA precursor compounds and produce a reduced-HPNA hydrocracked bottoms fraction effective for recycle, in a configuration of a single-stage hydrocracking reactor, series-flow once through hydrocracking operation, or two-stage hydrocracking operation. A process for separation of HPNA and/or HPNA precursor compounds from a hydrocracked bottoms fraction of a hydroprocessing reaction effluent comprises contacting the hydrocracked bottoms fraction with an effective quantity of a non-polar solvent to promote precipitation of HPNA compounds and/or HPNA precursor compounds. The soluble hydrocarbons in the hydrocracked bottoms fraction are separated into an HPNA-reduced hydrocracked bottoms portion that is recycled within hydrocracking operations.

In one embodiment, a method for manufacturing a lubrication oil includes the steps of receiving into an adsorber unit an unconverted oil (UCO) feedstock comprising five and six ring polynuclear aromatic (PNA) compounds and contacting the UCO feedstock with an adsorbent to remove PNA compounds, thereby forming a treated UCO feedstock with a low concentration of five and six ring PNAs.

A process for reducing the environmental contaminants in a ISO 8217 compliant Feedstock Heavy Marine Fuel Oil (Feedstock), the process involving: mixing a quantity of the Feedstock with a quantity of Activating Gas mixture to give a feedstock mixture; contacting the feedstock mixture with one or more catalysts to form a Process Mixture from the feedstock mixture; separating the Product Heavy Marine Fuel Oil liquid (Product) components of the Process Mixture from the gaseous components and by-product hydrocarbons of the Process Mixture and, discharging the Product. The Product is compliant with ISO standards for residual marine fuel oils and has a maximum sulfur content between the range of 0.05% wt. to 0.50% wt. The Product can be used as or as a blending stock for compliant, low sulfur or ultralow sulfur heavy marine fuel oil. A device for conducting the process is also disclosed.

The disclosure describes refinery processes and process units for suppressing the precipitation and deposition of heavy polynuclear aromatic (HPNA) compounds in a process unit of a refinery, by combining the effluent from a hydrocracking unit with an aromatic solvent stream. Certain costly HPNA treatment processes can be eliminated, downtime can be reduced, and overall distillate yield can be increased by suppressing HPNA precipitation. The aromatic bottoms—which are suitable solvents for this purpose—of an aromatic recovery complex can be used in certain embodiments to dissolve HPNAs and suppress HPNA precipitation.

In another aspect, a method of decontaminating a hydrocarbon fluid comprises applying an ultrasonic wave to the hydrocarbon fluid to disrupt a cell membrane of a microorganism to form a disrupted microorganism and to reduce a particle size of the disrupted microorganism to be less than or equal to 1.5 micrometers thereby forming a clean hydrocarbon fluid suitable for injecting through an injection nozzle.
