ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY MARINE FUEL
For the shipping industry, these fuels provide solutions to long outstanding technical problems that heretofore hindered supply of low sulfur marine fuels in quantities needed to meet worldwide sulfur reduction goals. Marine shipping use of high sulfur hunker oils is reported as largest source of worldwide transportation SOx emissions. When ships on the open seas burn cheap tow grade heavy bunker oils high in sulfur, nitrogen and metals, the SOx, NOx, and metal oxides go to the environment. This invention converts essentially all of each barrel of crude feed to a single ultraclean fuel versus conventional refining where crude feed is cut into many pieces, and each piece is sent down a separate market path meeting, various different product specifications. When in port, ships can use these fuels to generate and sell electricity to land based electrical grids to offset fuel cost in an environment-friendly manner.

PROCESS AND PLANT FOR PRODUCING HYDROCARBONS WITH REDUCED CO2-FOOTPRINT AND IMPROVED HYDROGEN INTEGRATION
Process and plant for producing hydrocarbon products from a feedstock originating from a renewable source, where a hydrogen-rich stream and on off-gas stream comprising hydrocarbons is formed. A portion of the hydrogen-rich stream is used as a recycle gas stream in a hydroprocessing stage for the production of said hydrocarbon products, and another portion may be used for hydrogen production, while the off-gas stream is treated to remove its H.sub.2S content and used as a recycle gas stream in the hydrogen producing unit, from which the hydrogen produced i.e. make-up hydrogen, is used in the hydroprocessing stage. The invention enables minimizing natural gas consumption in the hydrogen producing unit as well as steam reformer size.
Two stage hydrodearylation systems to convert heavy aromatics into gasoline blending components and chemical grade aromatics
Systems and methods include an aromatics complex (ARC), the ARC in fluid communication with a naphtha reforming unit (NREF) and operable to receive a reformate stream produced by the NREF, and the ARC further operable to separate the reformate stream into a gasoline pool stream, an aromatics stream, and an aromatic bottoms stream; and a hydrodearylation unit operable to receive heavy, non-condensed, alkyl-bridged, multi-aromatic compounds from the aromatic bottoms stream, the hydrodearylation unit further operable to hydrogenate and hydrocrack the heavy, non-condensed, alkyl-bridged, multi-aromatic compounds to produce a stream suitable for recycle to the NREF or the reformate stream, where the hydrodearylation unit is further operable to receive hydrogen produced in the NREF.
Efficent 2-step process for the direct production of liquid fuels from carbon dioxide and hydrogen
Embodiments of the present invention relate to two improved catalysts and associated processes that directly convert carbon dioxide and hydrogen to liquid fuels. A catalytic system comprises two catalysts in series that are operated in tandem to directly produce synthetic liquid fuels. The carbon conversion efficiency for CO.sub.2 to liquid fuels is greater than 45%. The fuel is distilled into a premium diesel fuels (approximately 70 volume %) and naphtha (approximately 30 volume %) which are used directly as “drop-in” fuels without requiring any further processing. Any light hydrocarbons that are present with the carbon dioxide are also converted directly to fuels. This process is directly applicable to the conversion of CO.sub.2 collected from ethanol plants, cement plants, power plants, biogas, carbon dioxide/hydrocarbon mixtures from secondary oil recovery, and other carbon dioxide/hydrocarbon streams. The catalyst system is durable, efficient and maintains a relatively constant level of fuel productivity over long periods of time without requiring re-activation or replacement.
TRANSFER HYDROGENATION OF HEAVY HYDROCARBONS WITH HYDROGEN-DONOR SOLVENTS
Processes for converting the coal-derived heavy-oil fraction of syncrude to polyols are described. The processes involve mixing a feed stream comprising the coal-derived heavy-oil fraction with an alcohol and aqueous sulfuric acid, heating the mixture, reacting the coal-derived heavy-oil fraction with ozone, and reacting the ozonated heavy-oil fraction with glycerin to form the polyol. In some cases, the ozonated heavy-oil fraction can be neutralized before reacting the ozonated heavy-oil fraction with the glycerin.
