Method and systems for isolation and/or separation of products from production processes
The present invention relates to separation of desired target products from biological, plant, and waste-type material, wherein the desired target products include renewable fuels such as ethanol, biobutanol, and biodiesel, wherein the separation is conducted with a cross-flow filtration system having the ability to separate desired products from both non-viscous and viscous medium.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING FUEL USING TWO FERMENTATIONS
A process is provided for forming a fuel or a fuel intermediate from two fermentations that includes feeding an aqueous solution comprising a fermentation product from a first bioreactor to a second bioreactor and/or a stage upstream of the second bioreactor, which also produces the fermentation product. The aqueous solution may be added at any stage of the second fermentation and/or processing steps upstream from the second bioreactor that would otherwise require the addition of water. Accordingly, the product yield is increased while fresh/treated water usage is decreased.
Process for the manufacture of butanol or acetone
A process for the manufacture of butanol, acetone and other renewable chemicals utilizes one or more of by-products of the manufacture of malt whisky, such as pot ale and spent lees, biomass substrates, such as paper, sludge from paper manufacture and spent grains from distillers and brewers, and diluents, such as water and spent liquid from other fermentations. The process includes treating a substrate to hydrolyze it and fermenting the treated. Also provided is a biofuel including butanol manufactured according to the process.
Process for treating gasoline
The present application relates to a process for treating gasoline, comprising the steps of: splitting a gasoline feedstock into a light gasoline fraction and a heavy gasoline fraction; optionally, subjecting the resulting light gasoline fraction to etherification to obtain an etherified oil; contacting the heavy gasoline fraction with a mixed catalyst and subjecting it to desulfurization and aromatization in the presence of hydrogen to obtain a heavy gasoline product; wherein the mixed catalyst comprises an adsorption desulfurization catalyst and an aromatization catalyst. The process of the present application is capable of reducing the sulfur and olefin content of gasoline and at the same time increasing the octane number of the gasoline while maintaining a high yield of gasoline.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR LIQUID FUEL PRODUCTION FROM CARBONACEOUS MATERIALS USING RECYCLED CONDITIONED SYNGAS
A method of producing liquid fuel and/or chemicals from a carbonaceous material entails combusting a conditioned syngas in pulse combustion heat exchangers of a steam reformer to help convert carbonaceous material into first reactor product gas which includes carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and other gases. A portion of the first reactor product gas is transferred to a hydrogen reformer into which additional conditioned syngas is added and a reaction carried out to produce an improved syngas. The improved syngas is then subject to one or more gas clean-up steps to form a new conditioned syngas. A portion of the new conditioned syngas is recycled to be used as the conditioned syngas in the pulse combustion heat exchangers and in the hydrocarbon reformer. A system for carrying out the method include, a steam reformer, a hydrocarbon reformer, first and second gas-cleanup systems, a synthesis system and an upgrading system.
BLENDED GASOLINE COMPOSITION
Disclosed is a blended gasoline composition having an AKI of 87. The formulation of the blended gasoline composition leads to a reduction in carbon dioxide emission. The blended gasoline composition contains a reduced concentration of olefins and non-amine aromatics.
FUEL COMPOSITIONS WITH ENHANCED COLD PROPERTIES AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
Methods of making a diesel fuel blend having enhanced cold properties; methods of lowering the cloud point of a mineral middle distillate fuel; and diesel fuel blends including a blend of a renewable fuel and a mineral middle distillate fuel.
USE OF SPECIFIC VOLATILE FATTY ESTERS IN PETROL ENGINES IN ORDER TO REDUCE EMISSIONS
The invention relates to the use of esters of volatile fatty acids, such esters having a number of carbon atoms between 4 and 8, in a fuel for a petrol engine in order to reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxides, unburned hydrocarbons and particles of petrol engines.
Fuel formulation
A gasoline fuel formulation which contains 60% v/v or more of a combination of (a) a biologically-derived alcohol and (b) a mixture of C.sub.4 to C.sub.12 hydrocarbon fuel components, all of which hydrocarbon fuel components have been derived, whether directly or indirectly, from catalytic conversion of a biologically-derived oxygenate component, wherein the concentration of the alcohol (a) in the formulation is from 0.1 to 30% v/v.
