Provided is a lubricating oil composition containing a base oil (A) and a viscosity index improver (B) and satisfying the following requirements (I) and (II):

Requirement (I): a kinematic viscosity at 80 C., V.sub.80 of the lubricating oil composition is 11.5 mm.sup.2/s or less;

Requirement (II): a ratio [V.sub.80/T.sub.80] of a kinematic viscosity at 80 C., V.sub.80 (m.sup.2/s) to an oil film thickness measured at a sliding speed of 2.0 m/s, a maximum Hertz pressure of 0.8 GPa, and an oil temperature of 80 C., T.sub.80 (nm) of the lubricating oil composition is less than 0.105 ((m.sup.2/s)/nm).

The lubricating oil composition is excellent in fuel saving properties and anti-wear properties even when it is used in a temperature environment of around 80 C. which is assumed to fall within a range where an engine is practically used.

It is an object of this invention to provide a lubricant additive applicable integrally to all of different types of lubricants for various applications. A lubricant additive adapted to be blended to a lubricating oil, which is characterized by comprising a synthesized base oil of the polyolester type, the content of which to be contained in the lubricant additive is in a range of from 30.0 w/w % to 60.0 w/w %, calcium sulfonate containing calcium carbonate formed in the calcite crystal structure, the content of which to be contained in the lubricant additive is in a range of from 5.0 w/w % to 30.0 w/w %, a poly-alpha-olefin oligomer, an anti-oxidant of the zinc dithiophosphate type, succinimide, an extreme pressure agent of the thiadiazole type and an anti-oxidant of the phenol type, is provided.

Dispersant viscosity index improvers to enhance wear protection in engine oils

An engine oil composition including greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity selected from a Group III, a Group IV or a Group V base oil, and mixtures thereof, 0.1-10 wt. % of a dispersant viscosity index improver that a reaction product of an olefin copolymer, an acylating agent and a polyamine, one or more calcium-containing detergents that provide from about 900 ppmw to about 2500 ppmw of calcium to the engine oil composition, and one or more molybdenum-containing compounds. The engine oil composition has an SAE viscosity grade of 0W-X or 5W-X, wherein X=16, 20, 30, or 40; from about 500 ppmw to about 1000 ppmw of phosphorus; and a total sulfated ash content of no greater than 1.2 wt. %, as measured by ASTM D874. Methods of using the engine oil composition to lubricate or operate an engine are also described.

There is provided a lubricating oil composition which is excellent in the wear resistance and the oil film retention even when the viscosity of the composition is lowered. The lubricating oil composition comprises: a base oil (A); an imide compound (B); a calcium-based detergent (C); a polymer component (D); and a zinc dithiophosphate (E), wherein the imide compound (B) comprises at least one non-boron-modified succinic acid imide compound (Bx) selected from a succinic acid monoimide (B1x) represented by general formula (b-1) and a succinic acid bisimide (B2x) represented by general formula (b-2), and wherein the polymer compound (D) has a mass average molecular weight (Mw) of not less than 10,000 and not more than 50,000, and comprises at least one selected from an olefin polymer (D1) and a polymethacrylate (D2).

Basic Ashless Additives And Lubricating Compositions Containing Same

The disclosed technology relates to a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ashless basic amine additive selected from a secondary amine containing -carbon aromatic substitution. The basic secondary amine additives used in the lubricating oils of the disclosed technology impart basicity measured as total base number (TBN) without adding sulfated ash. Lubricating oils containing the basic secondary amine additives of the disclosed technology simultaneously achieve seals compatibility, deposit, and corrosion control.

The lubricating oil composition is not only excellent in oxidation stability but also favorable in an effect for suppressing the generation of squeal and braking properties, and is suitably applicable to machines equipped with a wet type brake or wet type clutch.
