PRODUCTION OF BASESTOCKS FROM PARAFFINIC HYDROCARBONS
20170334806 · 2017-11-23 · ·

A process to convert paraffinic feedstocks into renewable poly-alpha-olefins (PAO) basestocks. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, renewable feed comprising triglycerides and/or free fatty acids are hydrotreated producing an intermediate paraffin feedstock. This paraffin feedstock is thermally cracked into a mixture of olefins and paraffins comprising linear alpha olefins. The olefins are separated and the un-reacted paraffins are recycled to the thermal cracker. Light olefins preferably (C2-C6) are oligomerized with a surface deactivated zeolite producing a mixture of slightly branched oligomers comprising internal olefins. The heavier olefins (C6-C16) are oligomerized, preferably with a BF3 catalyst and co-catalyst to produce PAO products. The oligomerized products can be hydrotreated and distilled together or separate to produce finished products that include naphtha, distillate, solvents, and PAO lube basestocks.

An alkylate base oil of biological origin and a process to make an alkylate base oil comprising: a) hydrogenating a farnesene to make a farnesane comprising from zero to less than 5 wt % unsaturated molecules; and b) alkylating the farnesane with one or more C6 to C43 olefins in the presence of an acidic alkylation catalyst to make the alkylate base oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. from 3 mm.sup.2/s to 20 mm.sup.2/s.

METHODS FOR PRODUCING FUELS, GASOLINE ADDITIVES, AND LUBRICANTS USING AMINE CATALYSTS

Provided herein are methods for producing α,β-unsaturated ketones from the condensation of methyl ketones in the presence of an amine catalyst. Such amine catalysts may be supported, for example, on a silica-alumina support. Such amine catalysts may be used in the presence of an additional acid. The α,β-unsaturated ketones may be produced by dimerization and/or timerization of the methyl ketones. Such α,β-unsaturated ketones may be suitable for use in producing fuels, gasoline additives, and/or lubricants, or precursors thereof. The methyl ketones may be obtained from renewable sources, such as by the fermentation of biomass.

Catalytic upcycling of polyolefins into lubricants

A method of upcycling polymers to useful hydrocarbon materials. A catalyst with nanoparticles on a substrate selectively docks and cleaves longer hydrocarbon chains over shorter hydrocarbon chains. The nanoparticles exhibit an edge to facet ratio to provide for more interactions with the facets.

ALKYLATION OF METALLOCENE-OLIGOMER WITH ISOALKANE TO MAKE HEAVY BASE OIL
20170335217 · 2017-11-23 ·

A process to make an isoalkane alkylate base oil, comprising: a. oligomerizing an olefin feed having a carbon number from 3 to 6 using a metallocene catalyst to make an unsaturated olefin oligomer; and b. alkylating an isoalkane feed with the unsaturated olefin oligomer in the presence of an acidic alkylation catalyst, and without any addition of hydrogen, to make an alkylate product comprising the isoalkane alkylate base oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. greater than 10 mm.sup.2/s, a VI higher than 80, and a bromine index less than 1000 mg Br/100 g.

BASE OIL HAVING HIGH VISCOSITY INDEX FROM ALKYLATION OF DIMER KETONE-DERIVED OLEFIN
20170335216 · 2017-11-23 ·

A process to make an alkylate base oil having a viscosity index greater than or equal to 90, comprising: a. converting an at least one dimeric ketone to an at least one alcohol; b. dehydrating the at least one alcohol to make one or more corresponding olefins; and c. alkylating at least one isoalkane with the one or more corresponding olefins to form the alkylate base oil.

A water-soluble lubricant composition for warm and hot plastically working of an aluminum material comprising (A) hydrophilic polyester resin, (B) alkali metal salt of a polymaleic acid resin, (C) alkali metal salt of carboxylic acid and (D) water, and optionally (E) a wax.

Methods for producing fuels, gasoline additives, and lubricants

The present disclosure generally relates to the production of fuels, gasoline additives, and/or lubricants, and precursors thereof. The compounds used to produce the fuels, gasoline additives, and/or lubricants, and precursors thereof may be derived from biomass. The fuels, gasoline additives, and/or lubricants, and precursors thereof may be produced by a combination of intermolecular and/or intramolecular aldol condensation reactions, Guerbet reactions, hydrogenation reactions, and/or oligomerization reactions.
