The present invention provides a lubricant composition for an internal combustion engine comprising a base oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the base oil comprises an ether base stock of formula (A): where: R.sub.a and R.sub.b are aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups and may be the same or different; wherein at least one of R.sub.a and R.sub.b is branched-chain alkyl, alkoxy-substituted-alkyl or cycloalkyl-substituted-alkyl; the lubricant composition further comprising at least one aminic anti-oxidant and/or at least one phenolic anti-oxidant; and wherein the total combined amount of aminic and phenolic anti-oxidant in the lubricant composition is not more than 4.0% by weight of the lubricant composition. In some embodiments, the ether base stock has the formula (1): where: R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are as defined herein. The lubricant composition may be used for lubricating a surface in an internal combustion engine as well as for improving the fuel economy performance and/or piston cleanliness performance of an engine and/or a vehicle, such as an automotive vehicle associated with an internal combustion engine.

The thickener is a urea thickener, and the grease composition contains 10 to 30 mass % of the thickener based on the total amount of the base oil and the thickener. The grease composition contains 0.2 to 10 mass % of the organic modified polysiloxane based on the total amount of the base oil and the thickener.

Provided is a grease composition which can be used as a lubricant for roller bearings, exhibits excellent high temperature durability and rust preventive property, and can prevent premature flaking on the rolling surface due to hydrogen embrittlement. A roller bearing 1 is obtained by sealing a grease composition 7 in the periphery of a rolling element 4, this grease composition 7 is composed of a base oil excluding an ester-based synthetic oil, a thickener, and an additive, the additive contains (a) an alkanolamine and (b) 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline or a polymer thereof but does not contain an organic sulfonate, and (a) and (b) are contained at from 0.1 to 10 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of a total amount of the base oil and the thickener, respectively.

LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITIONS WITH OXIDATIVE STABILITY IN DIESEL ENGINES USING BIODIESEL FUEL

A method for improving oxidative stability of a lubricating oil in a diesel engine, in which biodiesel fuel is used with diesel fuel in the diesel engine, by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including at least one Group V lubricating oil base stock. The at least one Group V lubricating oil base stock is present in an amount from 1 to 75 weight percent, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil. Oxidative stability is improved in a diesel engine lubricated with the lubricating oil, as compared to oxidative stability achieved in a diesel engine lubricated with a lubricating oil not having the at least one Group V lubricating oil base stock, as determined by a CEC L-109-16 Bio-Diesel Oxidation Bench test. The lubricating oils are useful as passenger vehicle engine oil (PVEO) products or commercial vehicle engine oil (CVEO) products.
