ASHLESS OR REDUCED ASH QUATERNARY DETERGENTS
A composition of an oil-soluble ionic detergent that does not contribute metal ions to the composition, and which comprises a quaternary non-metallic pnictogen cation and an organic anion having at least one hydrocarbyl group of sufficient length to impart oil solubility to the detergent, the detergent having a total base number (TBN) to total acid number (TAN) ratio of at least 2:1 imparts ash-free basicity to a lubricant composition.
Lubricant composition
A lubricant composition for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine comprises: (i) an amine as an ashless fuel additive having a total base number (TBN) of from about 275 to about 600 mg KOH/g when tested according to ASTM D2896; and (ii) a detergent selected from metal sulfonates, phenates, salicylates, carboxylates, thiophosphonates, and combinations thereof. The lubricant composition has a TBN of from about 20 to about 130 mg KOH/g when tested according to ASTM D2896. The amine contributes greater than about 30% of the TBN of the lubricant composition. Further, a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine with the lubricant composition comprises the steps of injecting a fuel and the lubricant composition into a cylinder to form a mixture, and combusting the mixture via compression-ignition.
Industrial oil composition
An industrial oil composition contains a mineral or a synthetic oil as a base oil, and a neutral phosphite ester derivative represented by the following formula (B) and a 2,6-di-t-butylphenol derivative represented by the following formula (C) as antioxidants. In the formula (B), R.sup.b21 to R.sup.b24 each independently represent an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 10 to 16 carbon atoms. In the formula (C), R.sup.c1 represents a straight-chain or a branched alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbon atoms. ##STR00001##
Ionic liquid, lubricant, and magnetic recording medium
A lubricant including an ionic liquid, which includes a conjugate acid (B.sup.+) and a conjugate base (X.sup.), and is protic, wherein the conjugate acid includes a straight-chain hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms, and wherein the conjugate base is represented by the following general formula (1): ##STR00001##
where n is an integer of from 0 to 6 in the general formula (1).
Ionic liquid, lubricant, and magnetic recording medium
A lubricant including an ionic liquid, which includes a conjugate acid (B.sup.+) and a conjugate base (X.sup.), and is protic, wherein the ionic liquid is represented by the following general formula (1): ##STR00001##
where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a hydrogen atom or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 form a benzene ring together with carbon atoms to which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are bonded, and R.sup.3 represents a straight-chain hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms in the general formula (1).
GREASE COMPOSITION
Provided herein is a grease composition capable of reducing an amount of wear in sliding parts of various members of automobiles, electrical devices, and the like. The grease composition includes a lubricant base oil, a thickener, an amide compound, and at least one of an -hydroxycarboxylic acid metal salt, and an -hydroxycarboxylic acid metal salt. The hydroxycarboxylic acid metal salts are contained in a total content of 0.1 to 2 mass % with respect to the total amount of the grease composition.
LUBRICANT COMPOSITION
A lubricant composition has an increased oxidation induction time. The lubricant composition includes a base oil present in an amount of greater than 85 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the lubricant composition. The lubricant composition also includes an antioxidant component including particular first, second, and third antioxidants.
Lubricant composition comprising hindered cyclic amines
A lubricant composition includes a base oil and a cyclic amine compound. A method of lubricating a system including a fluoropolymer seal with the lubricant composition is also provided. An additive concentrate for a lubricant composition is also provided. The cyclic amine compound is useful for adjusting the total base number of a lubricant composition. The lubricant composition is compatible with fluoropolymer seals.
