Lubricants with a terpolymer made of diester, olefin and acrylate The invention relates to a lubricant comprising a terpolymer which comprises in polymerized forma diester selected from di(C.sub.4-C.sub.22 alkyl)ester of maleic acid, fumaric acid, 2-methylmaleic acid, 2,3-dimethylmaleic acid, 2-methylfumaric acid, 2,3-dimethylfumaric acid, or mixtures thereof, an olefin selected from C.sub.6-C.sub.40 alky-1-ene, and an acrylate selected from C.sub.4-C.sub.40 alkyl (meth)acrylate. The invention further relates to the terpolymer, a process for preparing the terpolymer comprising the step of polymerizing the diester, the olefin, and the acrylate; and to a method for reducing friction between moving surfaces comprising the step of contacting the surfaces with the lubricant or with the terpolymer.

GREASE COMPOSITION

A grease composition includes a base oil, a thickener, and an additive. The base oil is at least one selected from the group consisting of polyoxyalkylene, ether derivatives of polyoxyalkylene, and mixtures thereof. The additive includes polytetrafluoroethylene as a first solid lubricant and at least one selected from the group consisting of calcium carbonate, calcium oxide, tricalcium phosphate, and calcium salts of fatty acids as a second solid lubricant. The content of the second solid lubricant is 0.5% by mass or more based on the total mass of the composition.

BASE OILS AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME

A process for the preparation of saturated hydrocarbon base oils is provided, comprising oligomerization of a feed mixture that has an average carbon number in the range of 14 to 18 to produce an oligomer product comprising dimers, trimers, and higher oligomers, where the dimer has a branching proximity (BP) of 20 or greater, isomerization of at least the dimer portion, and hydrogenation of the isomerized product. The dimer portion is separated from the oligomer product, and a saturated hydrocarbon base oil is obtained comprising greater than 90% dimers having an average carbon number in the range of from 29 to 36, and the dimer portion having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 422 to 510, where the dimers have an average Branching Index (BI) in a range of 22 to 26 and an average paraffin branching proximity (BP) in a range of from 18 to 26.

Hyperbranched polyesters and their use as wax inhibitor, as pour point depressant, as lubricant or in lubricating oils

The invention relates to a method for the preparation of a hyperbranched polyester mixture obtainable by reacting a hydroxyl group containing carboxylic acid (B) with at least one carboxylic acid group and at least two hydroxyl groups with a diol (C) having a molecular weight of more than 100 g/mol, optionally in the presence of at least one further reactant, wherein the at least one further reactant is a polyol (A) having at least three hydroxyl groups under a reaction condition allowing ester and ether formation; and reacting the mixture resulting from step (a) with a hydrophobic carboxylic acid (D) resulting in the hyperbranched polyester mixture. The invention further relates to said hyperbranched polyester mixture and the use as wax inhibitor, as pour point depressant, as lubricant or in lubricating oils.

Driveline fluids comprising API group II base oil

Described herein is a process, comprising: a) selecting an API Group II base stock with selected viscosity index and pour point; b) blending a base oil with the base stock, and c) adding to the base oil: i) a liquid ethylene propylene copolymer viscosity modifier that reduces a traction coefficient, and ii) an additive package, to make a driveline fluid that has a defined viscosity index and excellent shear stability. Also provided is a driveline fluid composition having the high viscosity index and excellent shear stability, comprising: a) a base oil comprising from 50 wt % to 100 wt % API Group II base stock; b) a liquid ethylene propylene copolymer viscosity modifier that reduces a traction coefficient; and c) an additive package. Further provided is a method for lubricating an axle or manual transmission by supplying the driveline fluid composition.
