Lubricant for use in electric and hybrid vehicles and methods of using the same

A lubricant formulation for an electric or hybrid vehicle includes a base oil, or a blend thereof, one or more additives, and a molybdenum amine complex, such as diisotridecylamine molybdate, are provided. Lubricant formulations can be characterized by one of: improving electric motor protection when a volatage is applied to an electrode in the presence of a formulation comprising the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive as compared to a fluid lacking the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive; maintaining the electrical resistance slope of a formulation comprising the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive as compared to a fluid lacking the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive; the formulation forming a protective film on copper surfaces; a change in color of the formulation indicating contact load, temperature, time, or viscosity change.

The invention discloses a lubricating grease with thixotropy and a preparation method thereof. The lubricating grease comprises a polyurea/high base number calcium sulfonate composite thickener, colloidally dispersed calcium carbonate solid particles in the form of calcite, a calcium borate or calcium borate composite, and a calcium soap of fatty acid having 12 to 24 carbon atoms. The above components are uniformly dispersed in an oil phase medium. The content of high base number calcium sulfonate in the lubricating grease is less than 22 wt %.

A lubricant composition for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine includes an amine and a detergent selected from metal sulfonates, phenates, salicylates, carboxylates, thiophosphonates, and combinations thereof. The lubricant composition has a TBN of from about 10 to about 100 mg KOH/g when tested according to ASTM D2896. The amine contributes from about 0.1 to about 28% of the TBN of the lubricant composition. Further, a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine with the lubricant composition includes the steps of injecting a fuel and the lubricant composition into a cylinder to form a mixture, and combusting the mixture via compression-ignition.

REJUVENATION AND/OR EXTENSION OF THE LIFETIME OF FRICTIONAL PERFORMANCE IN TRANSMISSION FLUIDS

A booster additive concentrate may advantageously contain: (a) an anti-wear mixture of two or more phosphite/phosphate compounds and one or more ether/thioether compounds; (b) an ashless dispersant; (c) a calcium-containing detergent, such as an overbased calcium phenate; (d) ≥2 friction modifiers, at least one of which comprises a polyalkylene polyamine succinimide derivative; (e) optionally a corrosion inhibitor; and (f) a lubricating oil basestock. Based on these additive components, the booster additive concentrate may exhibit specific contents of B/Ca/P and may contain minimal or substantially no additional antioxidants. Lubricant compositions can be made from the booster additive concentrates and a fresh/used lubricant oil composition “diluent,” which can rejuvenate the diluent. Such lubricant compositions can have advantageous anti-shudder durability (ASD) lifetimes and other frictional properties. In particular, such concentrates/compositions can offer superior lubrication when used in vehicles with continuously variable transmissions (CVTs).

Lubricating oil composition

A lubricating oil composition for reducing low-speed pre-ignition events or improving oxidation in a spark-ignited direct injection engine is disclosed. The composition includes a detergent additive which comprises either: an oil-soluble sulfonate including both magnesium and calcium as cations; or an oil-soluble salicylate including both magnesium and calcium as cations.

Seal swell agents for lubricating compositions

The invention relates to a seal swell agent which is a substituted sulfonyldibenzene compound, and lubricating compositions containing the seal swell agent. The substituents on the benzene rings may be hydrocarbyl groups of 4 to 20 carbon atoms or alkylene groups of 1-2 carbon atoms with further functional groups.

Lubricating oil composition for two wheeled vehicle, method for improving fuel economy of two wheeled vehicle using the lubricating oil composition, and method for producing the lubricating oil composition

The present invention provides a lubricating oil composition for two-wheeled vehicles, which is able to not only suppress a lowering of fatigue life of engine parts while making fuel saving properties (in particular, fuel saving properties at the time of low speed) favorable but also make clutch friction characteristics of two-wheeled vehicles favorable. The present invention is concerned with a lubricating oil composition for two-wheeled vehicles, including a base oil (A) having a viscosity index of 120 or more, an ethylene-propylene copolymer (B), and a metal-based detergent (C), wherein the content of the ethylene-propylene copolymer (B) is 0.30% by mass or more on the basis of the whole amount of the lubricating oil composition; the metal-based detergent (C) contains a calcium phenate (C1) and a calcium sulfonate (C2), and a mass ratio of the content (Ca.sub.1) of the calcium phenate (C1) as expressed in terms of a calcium atom to the content (Ca.sub.2) of the calcium sulfonate (C2) as expressed in terms of a calcium atom is satisfied with a relation of (1.0≤Ca.sub.1/Ca.sub.2); and the lubricating oil composition has a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. is less than 9.3 mm.sup.2/s and an HTHS viscosity at 150° C. is 2.9 mPa.Math.s or more.
