SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RAPID DETECTION OF VIABLE MICROORGANISMS IN LIQUID MEDIA
20200270669 · 2020-08-27 ·

A system and method for rapid detection of viable microorganisms (e.g., pathogens) in liquid media suspensions utilizes at least two electrodes in electrical communication with a suspension (e.g., liquid media possibly containing microorganisms). Electrical response to an electrical pulse in a short initial time window (e.g., no longer than a time required to attain 95% (or another threshold percentage) of a steady state electrical response value after a change in state of the pulse) permits bulk electrical response of the suspension between the electrodes to be determined before electrical response signals are dominated by double layer formation at surfaces of the electrodes. Pulse application and detection of electrical response to a change in state of a pulse may be repeated over time, with changes in such response being useful to detect microorganism proliferation in a bulk suspension.

Buffer Formulation Method and System

The monitoring and control of bioprocesses is provided. More particularly, the present disclosure is directed to formulating buffer products from multiple buffer solutions for feeding the different operations occurring within a bioprocess line. As the buffer product is being formulated, the buffer product is tested for conductivity, refractive index, and optionally pH. The conductivity measurements are used in conjunction with refractive index measurements to ensure that the buffer product not only has the correct concentration of ions but also has the correct concentration of components. A controller can be used to make automatic adjustments to the buffer product should any of the measured parameters fall outside a preset range.

Real-time patch-clamp sensing of transport across a barrier tissue

The present disclosure relates to methods, apparatuses, and systems to measure one or more electrical signals from a cultured cell layer. In some embodiments, such electrical signals can be indicative of transport or lack of transport of an agent through the cell layer.

Bioreactor and method of use of such bioreactor

A bioreactor includes a container (1) composed of at least one side wall (11), a bottom wall (12) and an opening (13) closed by a cap (14), such to identify an inner chamber. An intermediate wall (2) is inside the inner chamber, to divide the inner chamber in an upper chamber (31) and a lower chamber (32). The intermediate wall (2) has at least one hole (21). The intermediate wall (2) has at least one region resting on the bottom wall and/or the side wall and provides at the hole (21) at least one housing seat (26) for a membrane (22).

Electric reaction measuring apparatus, electric reaction processing method, and recording medium

An electric reaction measuring apparatus measures a potential of each of measurement electrodes, which are respectively disposed in chambers in a culture vessel, with respect to at least one reference electrode. The electric reaction measuring apparatus includes at least one control circuit. A measurement object is disposed in each of the chambers. The at least one control circuit calculates at least one principal component for each of the measurement electrodes by performing principal component analysis of the potential of each of the measurement electrodes; estimates, for each of the measurement electrodes, a potential corresponding to the principal component from the principal component of the measurement electrode, and synthesizes the estimated potential; subtracts the synthesized potential of the measurement electrode from a potential measured at the measurement electrode; and outputs a potential after subtraction.

Systems and methods for monitoring and tracking the behavior of cells and tissues in a culturing medium, for example, in a cell culture medium or an in vivo tissue environment, using a tissue scaffold system having one or more sensor arrays. Such monitoring systems include a tissue scaffold system and one or more sensor arrays on the tissue scaffold system in vertically stackable configurations. The sensor array(s) are configured to monitor electrical impedance and/or electrophysiological activities of cells or tissues which may be provided to an external data acquisition system for production of a three-dimensional (3D) map.
