BIOREACTOR INSERT AND BIOFILM SUPPORT, RELATED APPARATUS AND RELATED METHODS
The disclosure relates to bioreactors, for example for biological treatment and, more specifically to bioreactor insert apparatus including biofilms and related methods. The bioreactor insert apparatus provides a means for circulation of reaction medium within the bioreactor, a biofilm support, and biological treatment of an inlet feed to the reactor/insert apparatus. The bioreactor insert apparatus has a high relative surface area for biofilm attachment and is capable of generating complex flow patterns and increasing treatment efficiency/biological conversion activity in a biologically-active reactor. The high surface area structure incorporates multiple biofilm support structures such as meshes at inlet and outlet portions of the structure. The biofilm support structures and biofilms thereon can increase overall reaction rate of the bioreactor and/or perform some solid/liquid separation in the treatment of the wastewater or other influent.
Incubator
An incubator which can uniformly maintain a temperature/humidity in a culture chamber and prevent dew condensation from occurring in the culture chamber is provided. Further, an incubator which raises an air pressure in a culture chamber higher than that of the external environment to maintain an aseptic environment and prevents water vapor to be supplied from adversely affecting the inner aseptic environment is provided. An incubator includes a culture chamber including an insulated door and insulated wall, circulating means for circulating air in the culture chamber, temperature regulating means for regulating a temperature of the air in the culture chamber, and humidifying means for humidifying the air in the culture chamber. The humidifying means includes compressed gas generating means for generating a compressed gas, water supplying means for supplying water, a mixed gas-liquid regulator which regulates a mixed gas-liquid having compressed air and the water mixed therein, and a vaporizer which vaporizes the mixed gas-liquid to produce water vapor. Furthermore, the water vapor produced by the vaporizer can be directly supplied to the air circulated by the circulating means without passing through an air filter.
GAS-FED FERMENTATION REACTORS, SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES UTILIZING GAS/LIQUID SEPARATION VESSELS
Reactors, systems and processes for the production of biomass by culturing microorganisms in aqueous liquid culture medium circulating inner loop reactor which utilize nonvertical pressure reduction zones are described. Recovery and processing of the culture microorganisms to obtain products, such as proteins or hydrocarbons is described.
Methods, substrates, and systems useful for cell seeding of medical grafts
Described are methods, cell growth substrates, and devices that are useful in preparing cell-containing graft materials for administration to patients. Tubular passages can be defined in cell growth substrates to promote distribution of cells into the substrates. Also described are methods and devices for preparing cell-seeded graft compositions, methods and devices for preconditioning cell growth substrates prior to application of cells, and cell seeded grafts having novel substrates, and uses thereof.
Compact reactor for enzymatic treatment
Reactor for enzymatic hydrolysis of a raw material comprising in sequence: i)—a first heat exchanger adapted to heat the raw material supplied to the reactor to a temperature within a range that favours enzymatic hydrolysis, ii)—a reactor comprising plural in reactor chambers connected in series, separated by closable valves, iii)—a second heat exchanger adapted to heat the reaction mixture to a temperature higher than the temperature range favouring enzymatic hydrolysis, the reactor being formed with inclined tubular reactor chambers assembled to form a reactor with vertical axis, the first reactor chamber being the vertically uppermost chamber of the reactor, while at least one reactor chamber is adapted to be stirred with a through-flowing inert gas.
Photobioreactor having movable maintenance device
The present invention relates to a photobioreactor 1 for cultivating phototrophic microorganisms, comprising a reactor element 2, which has a tube 3, a maintenance device 4, and a drive system 5, which can move the maintenance device 4 in the tube 3. The photobioreactor is designed such that liquid culture medium 6 containing the microorganisms flows through at least some of the tube 3 when the photobioreactor 1 is in the operating state. The invention is characterised in that the photobioreactor 1 is designed such that the maintenance device 4 can be used in the tube 3 when the photobioreactor 1 is in operating state and can be moved in the tube 3 at least counter to the flow of the culture medium 6 by the drive system 5. The invention also provides a method for cultivating phototrophic microorganisms in a photobioreactor having a movable maintenance device, a movable maintenance device for maintaining the inner surface of a tube of a photobioreactor for cultivating phototrophic microorganisms, and the use thereof during operation of the photobioreactor.
Gut bioreactor and methods for making the same
A gut bioreactor includes a fold region and a flow region. The fold regions include members that cooperate to form crypts. The members may have protuberances extending from a surface of the members into the crypts. The gut bioreactors may include multimaterial fibers that are configured to detect aspects of the crypts or may mechanically move portions of the gut bioreactor.
TROPHOWELL
A platform for testing cell response to biochemical agents. The TrophoWell™ includes a well which contains a gel, and a plurality of capillaries that open into it. Cells and various biochemical agents such as drugs and growth factors are flown through those capillaries. The platform allows for the evaluation of cell response by imaging. The platform is a cost effective testing platform and can be used in the fields for drug discovery and personalized medicine.
Cell Sheet Transfer Device and Cell Sheet Processing Equipment
A cell sheet transfer device and a cell sheet processing equipment. The cell sheet transfer device includes a first tubular body; a second tubular body at one end of the first tubular body and connected thereto; and a cell shovel at the end of the first tubular body and on one side of the second tubular body. A free end of the cell shovel is beyond a free end of the second shovel body.
