ALGAL CULTIVATION SYSTEM AND A PROCESS FOR BIOMASS PRODUCTION
The present disclosure relates to an algal cultivation system comprising an algal pond. The algal pond comprises a growth chamber containing algal culture which is exposed to light to enable rapid growth of algae therein, and a regeneration chamber which is substantially devoid of light and configured to provide a residence time to algal culture for repair of damaged proteins of algal cells. The present disclosure also relates to a process for biomass production, comprising circulating algal culture using convection current or forced convection, between the growth chamber and the regeneration chamber. The system and process facilitate in increasing biomass and mitigating salinity and/or temperature variations in the algal culture (A).
Methods and Systems for Efficient Bioreactor Mixing and Light Utilization Embodying Low Process Energy and Scalability
Embodiments of the present invention may provide fluid flow coordinators, passive flow field modifiers, or even inwardly protruding helical spines which can be used in continuous, scalable, low energy usage, bioreactor systems perhaps to provide optimal mixing of microorganisms with nutrients, gases, or the like or even to move microorganisms, such as algae, in and out of light for effective and optimal growth.
Liquid substrate tank for a biogas plant
A liquid substrate tank for a biogas plant includes an interior fillable with a liquid substrate and a bottom wall defining the interior on the bottom and being particularly at least regionally flat. A trough-shaped recess extending over a partial region of the bottom wall is formed in the bottom wall, to which and/or into which recess an extraction line of an extraction device is guided. The extraction device has an open-loop and/or closed-loop control device actuating the extraction device for extracting a substrate/sand mixture accumulating in the recess during operation from the recess and thus from the interior through the extraction line. The extraction device has an accommodation and/or sedimentation tank, or separator, connected to the extraction line relative to flow for accommodating or separating the substrate/sand mixture extracted through the extraction line into substrate and sand phases.
Anaerobic reactor
An anaerobic reactor (1) for treating waste water includes a reaction vessel (2) and a three phase separator (4) above the reaction vessel and arranged to receive effluent from the reaction vessel. The three phase separator includes an outer wall (10, 14) connected at its bottom to the top of the reaction vessel and a liquid outlet (42), a lid (16) closing the top of the outer wall. The lid has a gas outlet (17) above the level of the liquid outlet. The three phase separator also includes a funnel (18) arranged above the reaction vessel, a guide wall (30) spaced from and arranged radially outward of the funnel so to surround an upper aperture of the funnel and a baffle wall (36) spaced from and arranged between the guide wall and the liquid outlet.
Disposable bioreactor system
A cylindrical or annular polymeric bioreactor is disclosed which provides enhanced mixing and aeration of the growth medium while simultaneously offering reduced mechanical shear force.
Pellets used in cell culture and methods of making thereof
The present invention is directed generally to dry cell culture media or feeds in pellet formats which can be reconstituted into liquid media for culturing cells in vitro. Each pellet composition may comprise the same or a different composition; for example, different vitamins, amino acids, buffers, trace salts, pH, iron chelators, etc. The invention also relates to methods of making dry cell culture media by altering ratios of different pellet compositions, or, methods of making modular dry cell culture media, or customizing media formulations for growing a cell type using pellets. According to the invention, media pellets may be easier to handle either before reconstitution, during shipping and handling; and/or during reconstitution. Media pellets may be used in any container like bags including sterile, single use bags for preparing media formulations. The invention also relates to kits and culture systems using media pellets.
CELL CULTURES COMPRISING POLY(OXAZOLINE) STABILIZERS AND USE OF POLY(OXAZOLINES) FOR STABILIZING CELL CULTURES
Cell cultures comprising poly(oxazoline) stabilizers and use of poly-(oxazolines for stabilizing cell cultures
Described are cell cultures containing in a cell culture medium one or more water-soluble poly(oxazolines).
The water-soluble poly(oxazoline) acts as a stabilizer for the cells and reduces the mechanical stress exerted by agitating the cell culture medium on the cells. This leads to an improved survival rate of the cells compared to the unstabilized state.
Single use bioreactor
A single-use bioreactor is provided. The single-use bioreactor may include a bioprocess container, a shell, at least one agitator, at least one sparger, at least one gas filter inlet port for the sparger(s) and headspace overlay, at least one fill port, at least one harvest port, at least one sample port, and at least one probe. In examples, at least one controller may monitor and control one or more parameters associated with the single-use bioreactor A method to cultivate and propagate mammalian cells is also provided. The method may include cultivating under suitable conditions and in a suitable culture medium in a first single-use bioreactor, transferring the medium containing the cells obtained by propagation from the at least one mammalian cell is into a second single-use bioreactor, transferring the medium containing the cells obtained by propagation from the at least one mammalian cell is into a third single-use bioreactor, and cultivating the cells in the third bioreactor.
Methods and Systems for Culturing Microbial and Cellular See Cultures
A method for culturing a microbial or cellular seed culture includes positioning a first flexible bag within a chamber of a first retainer, the first retainer being secured to a mixer table. A culture is produced within a compartment of the flexible bag, the culture comprising a growth media and a microbial or cellular starter culture added thereto. The mixer table is activated so that the culture is mixed within the compartment of the first flexible bag while the microbes or cells of the culture grow, the culture having a maximum volume of less than 10 liters.
CELL CHEMOTAXIS ASSAYS
A device includes an input chamber, an attractant chamber, a migration channel arranged in fluid communication between an outlet of the input chamber and inlet of the attractant chamber, a baffle arranged in fluid communication between the outlet of the input chamber and the migration channel or within the migration channel, and an exit channel in fluid communication with the migration channel at a point beyond the baffle and before the migration channel enters the inlet of the attractant chamber. The baffle is configured to inhibit movement of a first type of cell through the baffle to a greater extent than the baffle inhibits movement of a second type of cell through the baffle.
