Outrigger line management system
11589566 · 2023-02-28 ·

A line management system for an outrigger structure is provided for guiding outrigger cords through cord passages to maintain an independent longitudinal displacement in order to prevent entanglement. The system includes a plurality of outrigger cords, cord management units, and retention devices. The plurality of cord management units are coupled to the outrigger structure and are longitudinally spaced one from the other along the outrigger structure. Each of the cord management units defines a plurality of transversely offset cord passages respectively guiding predetermined ones of outrigger cords to maintain an independent longitudinal displacement relative to the outrigger structure.

DUAL RELEASE ROLLER CLIP FOR KITE FISHING
20220386578 · 2022-12-08 ·

A clip for attaching a fishing line to a kite line. The clip mounts on the housing for loosely supporting the fishing line. The clip includes a pair of top rollers and a bottom roller aligned in parallel during operation. The rollers rotate freely to prevent twisting of the kite line. The rollers do cooperate to hold the kite line and prevent axial motion between the kite line and the rollers of the clip. The clip is moveable between a locked configuration where the clip is secured axially to the fishing line and is capable of holding the fishing line, to an unlocked configuration that releases the fishing line. When bait at one end of the fishing line is hit or tugged, the clip releases both the fishing line and the kite line to enable the clip to slid down the kite line away from the kite and fishing line.

Method to achieve a trolling depth by analyzing line angles

A method is described to compute and display the line length required to troll a fishing rig at a desired depth. Line lengths and respective line angles measured at the surface are used to calculate an approximation to the actual underwater curve profile of the trolled fishing line, which is used to determine the line length required to troll at a desired depth or to determine the resulting depth for a specified line length. An embodiment is described which requires only a smartphone and software beyond standard trolling fishing equipment. This embodiment uses the embedded sensors of the smartphone to collect fishing line angle measurements. Also described is a method and devices to automatically collect the line angles and line lengths using a wireless fishing line inclinometer device and a wireless line counter, which is especially useful and convenient when software is implemented on a mounted marine electronics unit.

SHARK DETERRENT DEVICE AND METHOD

Sharks and other sea creatures are known to depredate fish from nets and longlines during the human act of fishing. It is known to try to use electrical currents passed through seawater to deter sharks from regions of human activity, particularly around divers. However, the power consumption required by such deterrents is very high, and is prohibitive in small portable devices. The present invention provides a sequence of electrical pulses in water, each electrical pulse in the sequence of electrical pulses spaced from each adjacent pulse by at least 3 seconds. In this way, the inventor found that an effective deterrent from depredation may be created with a much lower energy consumption that previously considered possible.
