Organic Food Preservative Compositions
The subject invention provides compositions and methods for preserving food products. Specifically, the subject compositions and methods can be used to prolong the consumable life of food products, as well as to reduce and/or prevent spoilage and/or contamination by microbial agents. Preferably, the compositions comprise a blend of one or more glycolipids and one or more lipopeptides. Even more preferably, the compositions comprise sophorolipids and surfactin, lichenysin or another lipopeptide biosurfactant.
FOOD PACKAGING FILMS FOR FOOD STORAGE AND FRESHNESS MONITORING
A pH responsive film for indicating food freshness includes a protein, a polysaccharide, and anthocyanin, wherein the protein and the polysaccharide form a protein/polysaccharide matrix within the film, and wherein the film is sufficient to change color in response to a change in pH of the film. Methods of making and using the film are included in the present disclosure. Food preservation systems utilizing the film are also presented.
Antimicrobial Compositions And Uses Thereof
The present invention relates to an antimicrobial composition having activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The composition is a) a composition comprising at least two organic acids selected from the group consisting of lactic acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid and citric acid; b) a composition comprising at least two bacteriocin selected from the group consisting of pediocin, Nisin and reuterin; c) a composition comprising pediocin and at least two organic acids selected from the group consisting of lactic acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid and citric acid; or d) a composition comprising reuterin and at least one organic acid selected from the group consisting of lactic acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid and citric acid. The present invention also relates to the use of said compositions for sanitizing and/or disinfecting surfaces and method thereof.
ANTIMICROBIAL CAPTURE SYSTEM WITH CARBON CONTAINER
According to one embodiment, a container for removing antimicrobials from an antimicrobial composition includes a container body having an exterior and an interior. The interior is at least partially filled with carbon granules configured to remove a portion of the antimicrobials in the antimicrobial composition. The interior is further filled with a liquid to at least a level that completely submerges each of the carbon granules. The container further includes an agitator configured to agitate at least a portion of the carbon granules. The container further includes a drain and a drainage valve. The location of the drainage valve is configured to prevent the drainage valve from lowering a current level of the liquid below the level that completely submerges each of the carbon granules.
Method for fungicidal and/or bactericidal treatment of resistant strains using essential oil(s)
The present invention relates to a method for fungicidal and/or bactericidal treatment of plants or foodstuffs using one or more essential oil(s) that enable the treatment of strains resistant to synthetic fungicides and/or bactericides.

CEACAM based antibacterial agents
Prophylactic and/or therapeutic antipathogen agents are provided that disrupt or prevent the formation of at least one homotypic and/or heterotypic protein-protein interaction that has at least one CEA-family protein and that is involved in the establishment and colonization of a pathogen in a suitable host.
BIOPOLYMER-BASED PRESERVATION OF PERISHABLE PRODUCTS
Disclosed herein are biopolymer-based coatings and products incorporating such coatings. Related methods and use are also provided.
METHOD FOR TREATING FOOD SURFACES WITH QUATERNARY AMMONIUM SALTS
A method for reducing bacterial contamination on a food surface. The method comprises applying to the food surface a quaternary ammonium salt and a methylcellulose. The methylcellulose has anhydroglucose units joined by 1-4 linkages wherein hydroxy groups of anhydroglucose units are substituted with methyl groups such that s23/s26 is 0.36 or less,
wherein s23 is the molar fraction of anhydroglucose units wherein only the two hydroxy groups in the 2- and 3-positions of the anhydroglucose unit are substituted with methyl groups and
wherein s26 is the molar fraction of anhydroglucose units wherein only the two hydroxy groups in the 2- and 6-positions of the anhydroglucose unit are substituted with methyl groups.
Removable antimicrobial coating compositions and methods of use
This invention relates to a method for controlling microorganisms comprising coating a surface with a removable, antimicrobial film-forming composition.
