The invention concerns novel compositions, comprising at least 2 different sources of ω-3 fatty acids, including wherein hoki roe at 5% (w/w) in powder or oil form and green-lipped mussel in powder or oil form. The compositions are particularly useful as/in supplements and/or animal or human food stuffs. The invention may further relate to the maintenance or treatment of human and veterinary conditions, such as use in the improvement of inflammation or joint related disorders that maybe associated with inflammation.

Preservation of newly-extracted roe sacks of sturgeons for subsequent harvesting of roe and caviar production, wherein said preservation employs an oil derived from roe sack membrane normally discarded in conventional caviar production. Such preservation enables roe sacks with retained roe derived from farmed or wild sturgeon to be stored and transported whereby export can be considered. The same oil, or fatty acid-containing fractions thereof, may also find use in dietary compositions, e.g. pet foods.

These compositions are homogenous compositions comprising effective amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in microencapsulated or emulsified form, and/or from the sediment extract from fish roe/egg, vitamin B6, magnesium, zinc and copper, and may further comprise additional ingredients such as folic acid (e.g., L-methyl folate) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).
