METHOD FOR PRODUCING WATER-SOLUBLE POLYSACCHARIDES
[Problem] An object is to obtain a water-soluble polysaccharide (mainly pectin) in a high yield under mild extraction conditions (temperature and pH) and also without using any special agent or extraction device, and to suppress the excessive degradation of the polysaccharide (reduction in the molecular weight of a neutral sugar side chain, demethyl esterification, and deacetylation).
[Means for Solution] By adjusting the particle size of pulp dried with superheated steam of the beet pulp generated as a by-product in a step of producing sugar from sugar beet and using the resultant as a raw material, a water-soluble polysaccharide (mainly pectin) can be obtained in a high yield in a short time under mild extraction conditions, and also the excessive degradation of the water-soluble polysaccharide (reduction in the molecular weight of a neutral sugar side chain, demethyl esterification, and deacetylation) can be suppressed.

A method for production of red ginseng hydrolysis concentrate according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes carrying out an enzyme reaction of red ginseng concentrate by adding an enzyme solution followed by addition of alcohol to prepare a mixture solution of red ginseng and alcohol, and centrifuging the prepared mixture solution of red ginseng and alcohol followed by concentration under reduced pressure of a supernatant separated by the centrifuge, and a red ginseng hydrolysis concentrate produced by the aforementioned process.

A dietary supplement composition includes a shelf stable, supercritical CO.sub.2 fluid extracted, enhanced lipidosterolic extract of Serenoa repens (LSESr) having about an enrichment of lauric, myristic, oleic and linoleic free fatty acids to total free fatty acids greater than about 82.0% and a ratio of free fatty acids to total fatty acids greater than about 80.0%. The invention provides a fenugreek extract composition containing at least one of diosgenin, gitogenin, sarsasapogenin, dioscin, protodioscin, pseudoprotodioscin, apigenin or a derivative thereof, luteolin or a derivative thereof, nicotinic acid or a derivative thereof, and kaempferol, or a salt or solvate of any one thereof. Also provided are processes of preparing the extract composition, and nutraceutical and pharmaceutical compositions containing the extract composition.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR REMEDIATION OF PESTICIDES AND HEAVY METALS FROM BIOMASS EXTRACTS
Some variations provide a remediation composition for pesticide and/or heavy-metal remediation of a biomass extract, the remediation composition comprising at least one polysaccharide, at least one metal oxide, and at least one metal salt. Some variations provide a process for producing a biomass extract from a biomass feedstock, comprising: providing a starting biomass feedstock that contains a pesticide or a heavy metal; exposing the starting biomass feedstock to a process solvent, thereby forming a biomass extract dissolved and/or suspended in the process solvent, wherein the pesticide or heavy metal are contained in the biomass extract; providing a separation media containing a polysaccharide, a metal oxide, and a metal salt; and introducing the biomass extract to the separation media, wherein the pesticide or the heavy metal are removed by the separation media, thereby generating a remediated biomass extract. Systems utilizing the remediation composition in fixed or fluidized beds are described.

Disclosed is a method for extracting fat from whey protein concentrate. The method also extracts lactose from whey protein concentrate. Whey protein isolate can be produced from whey protein concentrate, high-fat whey protein concentrate, or both, using the method of the invention.
